First of all, it is not that obvious which country you mean. Remember this goes all over the world.
Secondly, if you mean the US, as I will assume you do, then recognize that every country has a history. There's no "you" and "someone else" now about what happened in history. I did not either buy or steal any land. The term "my country" means "the land where I was born, the land where I am a citizen," not "the land I own." I don't own a single square inch of land; I rent, like many other Americans. And you do not own an entire nation because you own a particular part of it.
Remember, too, that the natives the Europeans found here did not believe in land ownership, as such. When they made treaties, it was on the basis of land they did not actually feel ownership toward. In fact, many of them failed to understand the Europeans concept of property laws and ownership but signed treaties on a very different basis. It was an acknowledgment of having lost a war. So the land was not either bought or stolen; it was ruled by right of conquest, a concept that most tribes had used for centuries.
It is useless for us today to argue the merits or demerits of any particular decision that took place long before our lifetimes. What we need to do is concentrate on what is fair and honorable NOW!

that's right we won it in war and we also paid Mexico 15 million in 1848 at the treaty signing and we also forgave the debt that Mexico owed the American people and that was 3 or 4 million. and we made the few Mexicans that were here citizens. don't like it tuff, it's the United States now so get over it. The Mexican stoled it from the Indians, also asswipe. The northern part of Mexico belonged to the Indians are they going to give it back, and they didn't even get paid.

The Indians stole it from the Vikings...
The Spanish stole it from the Indians
Mexico stole it from the Spanish...
United States had a war with Mexico and paid off the land with more than enough offered.. according to history.. According to Mexican history... Do a google search..
This is my country. I was born here, I am also part Indian, but even Indians stole it from the Vikings.
....Or.. more like snuck in here from Asia behind the Vikings backs.
I also fought for my country-- this is my country dude, sorry-- you can try to take it back if you want..
Actually, I challenge you to a duo..

How about this?
From: Arthur Quiller-Couch, ed. 1919. The Oxford Book of English Verse: 1250–1900.
By: Sir Walter Scott. 1771–1832
Patriotism
1. Innominatus
BREATHES there the man with soul so dead,
Who never to himself hath said,
'This is my own, my native land!'
Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd
As home his footsteps he hath turn'd 5
From wandering on a foreign strand?
If such there breathe, go, mark him well;
For him no Minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim; 10
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust from whence he sprung, 15
Unwept, unhonour'd, and unsung.

Since I am part Native American, I don't think so.
Nothing you can say will make ILLEGAL ALIENS acceptable... NOTHING !!!
ILLEGAL ALIENS are INVADERS, CRIMINALS. That should be easy to understand.
They are also DESERTERS. They desert their own people and country. Yet they wave the flag of corrupt governments, Mexico is but one, communinst RED china is another.
Then the CRIMINALS demand RIGHTS!!!! What rights???? ILLEGAL ALIENS have absolutely NO RIGHTS in the USA, NONE. Oh, the do have one right, the right to GET OUT. We do not want criminals here.
Stay in your own country and make it a better place to live.... deal with the corrupt government, revolt if need be. That is what it will take in Mexico to end corruption... ooops, forgot, already tried that, nothing changed except figureheads. Communist red china's government will collapse or change as its people start to love money and freedoms more than communism.....

To be honest yes there was fighting and killing, but nevertheless it was purchased. Amount, don't know.
Furthermore, no one on Yahoo Answers stole anything.
Such a claim should be brought before the proper authorities of the land.

Stealing did not come without sacrifices. To gain something, this country, we sacrificed something with equal value. Accept the fact that the ones that owned this territory before were too weak and now lost their land.

Call the waaambulance!
Considering the amount of my own blood I've shed on behalf of this country and the time I've spent away from family and friends, I believe I've paid enough to call the US "my country."

A better argument can be made by stating that mexico was sold to America out of greed than taken by force.
