Depends.
1. They are x -Mormons whose families have rejected them and /or their choices in life, even those sometimes these choices are moral and good just adverse to their Faith.
2. Or X Mormons whose families are kind to them but do not respect their beliefs while the x Mormon strives to respect theirs.
3. Some think they look and act a little too much like Nazi youth
4. People get offended when they are treated with insipid condescension.
5. The whole non believes go to the same place in heaven as rapist, murderers and the like.
6. They seem to do no charity outside their own church.
7. They did not let dark skinned men into the priesthood until the late 70s, and many seem racist. Their treatment of women and democracy. the idea that all must subscribe to their beliefs even if they are women or minorities, people who get a real crummy end of the LDS stick.
The whole "white male" lords over all things are very offensive to must of us.
8. They seem to care nothing for the planet we share, therefore creating and condoning deep poverty, environmental injustice, cancers and war.
9. Mainly it’s the idea that they claim to be respectful of others religions and cultures but most are not.
Most LDS I know are nice folks. In fact some I know are not monetarily wealthy and get taken advantage of and treated as lowers by they so called peers who are all wealthy beyond reason. This is a notorious reason people dislike others......rich=selfish no matter how you cut it, and looking down on people is never good.
That’s some answers, detesting anyone before you know them is folly. I think you asked a good question. I may agree with a few of my reasons but see everyone as an individual worthy of my respect until they lose it by action.

Some Christians consider it a false religion.
I don't think any true Christian would detest LDS or any other religion, but they may disagree with them.

Even before I joined the church I found mainstream christians more offensive then the Latter-Day Saints. In fact they are more helpful.

LDS believe the men can become Gods of their own planet after they stomp on the ground & call their wife to eternal life by their secret name. Then the lucky woman can eternally bear spiritual babies throughout eternity. Oh, and they call themselves Christian. Sorry, it's not the people, it's the false doctrine.

No, usually LDS are quite nice. People don't like them because they say they are christian, but most Christians don't think they are christian.

Last posts are funny. Anyway a few of my Christian friends were annoyed. They see they use the Bible but do not follow it. Such as false prophets etc. When they explain their faith they are like few Christians and non believers who don't listen to reason. This is not my pov, but I do understand what they mean when they say this. The Book of Mormon is very contradictory to what the Bible is. But I think they are Christians as well. They believe Christ and what he did. It's all what a person perceives it to be.
