i think that the age is only one small detall. it also depends on how mature you are. if you are 13 and acting like a 5 year old, in every way, you should not be trusted. but to answer your question, a good age is 10.

Age is just a number....
Most states say about 10 or older. The child HAS to know where they live, how to call 911 if there is ever a problem. I would only start leaving a child for an hour to see how they do and then go from there. Leaving a child home alone is not about how old they are, it's about how mature they are how well you trust the child. I have four kids oldest 7 and even though SHE thinks she's old enough to stay home alone, she needs a few more years before I can legally leave her... however, she knows how to call my cell, she knows where we live and how to call for help. I trust her... but still has to wait.

In California there is no law stating what age a child must be to be left at home alone. However, there is Kaitylyn's law, which is a law stating that a child must be 12 years of age to be left alone in a car for any length of time. I'd say 12 years old is a good age to start allowing your child to be at home alone for very short periods of time, may 15 to 30 minutes at a time. Keep in mind, all children are different, try it once and see how they react when you return.

depends on the child is there somebody close by neighbours that you trust. does the child know how to use a phone IE ring for an emergency number. Does the child follow your rules even when your not home can the child call his/her parents any time no matter what. can the child get there own meals food snacks and things. I really would not leave a child under the age of 13 at the very youngest at all and even then only if I can answer yes to these questions its amazing how even mature children can be in mature when parents are not around.

at the very earliest would be 13 legally. In most states a child is considered too young to be left to its own devices until the age of 13.
Don;t leave them to long or you will see a child become a sneaky, lying , lazy, lump of flesh and bone.
Make em get up and get going to do a chore. They will gripe, they will beg, they will scream at you and curse your mothers grave. But when they are grown they will understand why. They learned to not try to fool their momma.

I'd say 12 at a minimum, and not for very long or with much responsibility. When I was 12, I was allowed to be home for a few hours after school until my mother came home from work ( while my sister's still went to the sitter). That was it till I was about 14.. then I had to babysit my little sisters for a few hours after school until she came home.

Legally, it depends on where you live. In my state they go by the maturity level of the child, and start considering children as early as 8, or as old as 12, depending on how mature they are. Check the laws in your area.

If you're not asking about laws, it's up to you. You know your child better than anyone. Are they ready?
