Component cables can refer to many different types of cable. Assuming you mean component cables for your home theater (as that is the category you asked the question in) I will advise as such.

Component cables are RCA cables that transfer video in 3 different pieces. Each cable is identical in makeup, but they are colored differently. Each cable consists of 2 wires, one signal and one shield. The signal wire comes in many different gages, and is a plain copper wire that goes from the tip of one of the RCA plugs, to the tip of the other. The shield is designed to minimize interference from the other cables or devices nearby, and can be a plain copper wire or a steel mesh. this wire goes from the sleeve of one of the RCA plugs to the sleeve of the other. Inside the cable, the shield wraps around the signal wire (With a non conductive material such as rubber separating them of course so they do not touch!) and in effect grounds any outside signals from interfering with your picture.

Making the cables can sound like a great idea when you look at the prices of some of the designer name cables on the market. However, i will let you in on a little secret: All RCA cables are the same. There is no RCA cable that works better transferring video rather then audio, or vice versa. A good cable is a cable with solid connections, the correct impedance, and the purest non-oxidized copper available. if you do not wish to pay for the big names, then any RCA cable will do.

if you still wish to make them, buy any 75OHM shielded 2 conductor cable, and place RCA plugs on the ends. of course you will need 3 of them.

I hope this was helpful

leverson101 is right they are mostly the same as long as they have good shielding. However you need 6 connectors, not 3, 3 on each end;-) I do custom installs with the wire in the wall so they are custom length cables. I use RG6 coax or Quad shield coax depending on what the customer wants to pay for. I use RCA style F-conn punch downs, then add color coded bands made for that style connector to indicate Red Blue Green (or Yellow).

All this being said, unless you want a very specific length just buy them, it's cheaper.

Are you talking about the yellow, white, and red (or white and red, or yellow and white) RCA cables for audio and video equipment, then yes they are all the same. They are usually referred to as RCA A/V cables, or component cables. I do not know what they are made of or if they have more than one wire inside each cable.

Component cable are usually three phono or RCA style leads attached together and colour coded Red, Green, Blue. each one contains multi stranded copper at about 75 Ohm.

I don't this you can made them at home, as they are soo cheap to buy.

But still, i think you mean something else,

More details Please
