I have a small yorkie who does the same thing with a light ball the size of a basketball. I'll kick it around the yard and she'll chase it and such. When i throw it up in the air she jumps up and hits it back to me with her nose. I had a friend who told me that means she doesn't have a high confidence level. I think shes full of crap, but is there some kind of weird reason behind her idiotic diagnosis? Or is she as dumb as I thought.

(This is mainly to prove to her that I am not the stupid one in this situation.)

Other than that the dog is athletic, I don't think it proves anything. It seems to me that a dog that lacked confidence would not play like that, and would be more likely to run from the ball.

Keep it up, and have a good time. And ignore your friend. She clearly has no clue about animal behavior.

teach your dog to bite onto a little bat instead on hitting the ball back with the nose and there you got a really smart dog. invite your friend over to hang out or something. some her your dog's new trick, and say "what now?huh? can you hit a ball with your mouth bitting on to a bat? she is very smart unlike you!!!!!" hahahahaha

enjoy your dog.....long live the dogs!!

Unless your friend can jump up and hit the ball back to you with her nose, I'd tell her to shut her pie hole!!! Your dog has a natural ability and talent. How many tricks can your friend do?

no its doesnt mean that your dog has a lack of confidence it means that your dog wishes to spend more time with you so it feels that if she impresses you or acts like a human in a way that you will spend more time with her...how much time do you spend with her? see when i had my dog and he started to do that i realized that i wasnt spending enough time with him and then when i did he and i were closer and he also got to learn how to fully play basketball...

Your friend needs to stop watching that Dog Whisperer.
