Party Planning Help?

Question

What would you plan for a kind of End-Of-Summer celebration. We are on budget and we're planning a sort of tropical beach theme party, so what type of drinks and decorations could we get on budget.

you could buy tissue paper and kind of poke the middles in to make flowers, you know what i mean, right? make the dress code bathing suits and grass skirts...

you might be able to get some type of tiki light type things at cvs or something

and torchy type things to get rid of mosquitos look cool (if it's outside)

leis are always good, and try goign to local dollar stores, they probably have cheap but cute summery decorations that you can buy...

drinks? um pineapple, orange, coconut type juices (buy those little umbrellas)

or, get a smoothie maker, and make fruit smoothies, that's very summery...and of course iced tea and lemonade.

We did the same thing last year. I was able to get a lot of fake tropical flowers at the dollar store and blow-up palm trees on clearance at Party City. Dollar Store (like Dollar Tree) also has packs of fruit punch mix and the likes. Don't forget to look for other decorations like stuffed parrots and all while you are there.

I assume this will be a dinner time celebration ....you can get tiki torches for a buck at any dollar store ...and some pretty decent deocrations too. have everyone come int here beach wear and set up a small pool and or a slip and slide. make a great pucnh with sangrea and 7 up with lots of strawberries and other fresh fruit. buy a watermelon cut a small hole in the side before cutting it up and pour some vodka in it..Mmmmmmm fun

First, are you near a dollar store? Aldi's? Dollar General?? They all sell "cutsie" stuff for 1/4 of the price you'd pay anywhere else. Don't go to the big name guys, they'll just run you out of money.

As for food, depends on what you like. Seafood, that'll cost ya. Burgers, no problem - just go to the grocery store. Fruit---Local market.

Ask everyone what they like to drink? Bloody Mary's??? Tell them to bring their fav Vodka....you'll supply the Tomato juice (cuts cost right there!!) Daquiri's ---same thing - Beer----Youll supply the ice to keep it on!!!

As far as plates, silverware - PLASTIC - and don't be lazy- wash them good, then you can reuse.

Last but not least, ask everyone to bring a favorite dish that they like! (Wow, I didn't think of THAT!!!!!!) People will be excited that they brought a dish that noone else thought of! (uh huh......)

If you have a membership at a warehouse store like Sam's Club or Costco you could take advantage of the large quantities of food items and drink mixes. If you don't have one, it could be a worthwhile investment. Otherwise go for simple and easy...drag out Christmas lights to string up if necessary. Listen to Jimmy Buffett. Go for Mexican food because chips and dip and frozen taquitos, burritos, etc. are pretty inexpensive.

forget decorations, take the money and fly to Puerto Rico and bask on a real tropical beach...on the island of Culebra (just a bit east of PR) beautiful.....=)

Tropical punch $1.69 , blow up palm trees $ 10, you can buy sand at a hardware store $ 0.69 bag. things like that are cheap!

you should get a cheap bottle of fruit punch and a cheap bottle of vodka (maybe a couple of each depending on how many people are there) and mix them together and make fruit punch....it'll get ya drunk!! and maybe some streamers of island colors...bright colors....(they are cheap) and then maybe some bright colored clothing and things in that nature...its not too hard...you just have to know where to get started. it happens to me all the time!

You could always try the dollar store, I find great stuff in there. And of course, there's Wal-Mart!!
