The preps differ. If you are using the Fleet's Phosphosoda (tastes like ocean water), and begin it at 6 pm the night prior, you can expect to be "up" until about 12-2 am., but that too may differ and is contingent on the volume of liquid you drink. The prep really washes/wipes you out by depleting your body of electrolytes, so you can expect to sleep like a baby when you get home. Don't worry about the test; the sedation (propofol) has an amnesiac-like effect, so you won't remember or feel a thing. Good Luck.

Yeah I slept just fine. Hell no I didn't do the 18 hr prep. I did the one where you mix the bottle of stuff with Sprite and then take 4 pills later on in the day. The BEST thing you can do (I've had two of them) is to DRINK AS MUCH WATER as you possibly can. It will flush out your colon quickly and then you won't have to go all night long.

I haven't had this yet but I feel for you, and you got loads of good answers from folks who've been there. I am thinking you should take a TV tray, your pillow and a really boring book into the bathroom with you. If too many trips keep you there, read the book until you get very drowsy and then just lean forward and put your head on the pillow on your TV tray. I've catnapped that way when I was seriously nauseated before, and it works. GOOD LUCK.

Definitely no sleep. You will be spending the night on the commode. If the sink is close by, lean your head over on it and sleep while your sitting on the commode. If no sink is handy find something to lean you head over on.
Hope you can get some rest!

The prep was nasty but I got through it. The thing that kept me awake was knowing I would probably suffer considerable pain during the exam but just not remember it. The facts on the Web support this though obviously my memory does not. For the doubters, why would they give amnesia causing drugs rather than just pain killers? Remember the amnesia drugs carry a risk so its not just to spare you remembering the embarrassment!

Yes esp when something happy happens to me. if it's an unhappy event, i try not to dwell too much into it. Or I might not be able to sleep at all.

my mom just had that done about 3 months ago. she's 80 and so i helped her with everything. if she can do it, you'll be fine. don't get me wrong you're gonna hit the commode for sure, but drinking all that liquid is the worst part of it all.
