Dreamweaver problem: How do I open HTML files with custom extensions?

I have hundreds of HTML files with a ".wp2" extension. They open fine in Dreamweaver if I add .html to the end of the file name ... but then I have to remove the .html before saving or my links will break. Any advice?

Oh, I'm using Deamweaver 8 for Mac OSX.
