My camera manual has weird instructions about the type of batteries to buy.

Here's what it says:

The following AA (R6) batteries cannot be used.

1. Batteries whose bodies are only partially or not at all covered by an insulating sheet.

2. Batteries whose (-) terminals are raised, but not covered by an insulating sheet.

3. Batteries whose terminals are flat and not completely covered by an insulating sheet. (Such batteries cannot be used even if the (-) terminals are partially covered.

I bought rechargeable NiMH Energizer AA8 batteries but they won't work in my camera. Anything you can recommend?

Yeah several types of rechargeable batteries exist, but not all cameras can take all kinds. My camera can only take alkaline batteries and NiMH batteries.

Are you sure your camera manual doesn't mention which kinds of batteries will work? Lithium might work.

You may need lithium batteries. They are expensive, but my son's video camera works for 4mins on nimh or 30min with lithium
