Mum-in-law suffered a minor stroke which happened near the ear and under going therapy.

She's experiencing weakness at the left side from the eye to toes, dis-orientation and dizziness. Dizziness is causing her most problems in her movement. She's also low morale and feeling down.

Kind soul out there to offer any advice to bring her out of the blues and to her usual self? We've tried but not working. Please help.

Thanks

I worked on a medical rehab unit for 5 years, and seen miracles with stroke patients. She may need medication for the dizziness, but tell her not to give up. Time will heal her weakness, as long as she keeps going. She needs to exercise to build her strength back up, and to rewire her brain. (Yes, I said rewire her brain) Her brain has been injured, and just like everything else, it needs time to heal. If she doesn't pull out of her depression soon, she may have to take medication for it. If a good example will help, I saw a man that couldn't walk after a stroke, walk out the door of the rehab unit after a month.
Good Luck to your mum-in-law, and tell her to hang in there....it will get better....

Sorry to hear this happened.
Does she have friends her own age ?
Ask her friends to call or stop by.
What were her hobbies and interests before the stroke ?
I think anything that you can do that has to do with her life before the stroke would help.

She needs to have an evaluation by a psychiatrist and/or psychologist. This is a very frequent occurence for stroke victims. There are many meds to help her.
