I work for a dentist so I really try to make sure I am always on time for any of my kids dr's appointments, cause I know how annoying it is for a patient to be late and make the dr run behind. I have to take my daughter to a specialist at a hospital 2 hours away every three months. I always try to leave early but if there is a wreck or something on the freeway, you can't help running late. The last time I took her that is what happened and we were 15 minutes late. After I signed her in no one even spoke to me for another 25 minutes. They just left me in the waiting room. Finally the receptionist called me to the counter and said "The doctor may not be able to see her because her appt. was almost 45 mins ago." Well no kidding. They let me sit there, I guess to teach me a lesson, for 25 minutes. The doctor did see her, but does anyone else think that was just nuts? I cant complain to the dr cause he just works for the hosp. as an employee, it is not his office.

Trust me, as someone in the medical field I know first hand how it affects the office when a patient is late. I deal with it everyday. But I also know that things out of a persons control happen. I have seen accidents on the freeway before that hold up traffic for 2 hours. That is an unavoidable situation and a doctor should try to work with the patient, especially if they have driven 2 hours to get there.

You are saying that this is a regular trip to the same place and people every 3 months. They have seen your child and yourself for a long time now?
If you have always kept your appointments and been early, in the past. The odd time you can't help being late should be taken with graceful and mannerly tactics. They should be trusting of you because of your habits they are familar with already. No one can be there on the dot every time. we are humans. not machines. things happen, time goes on with out a care as to our situation. so we become late.
What I hate is to have an appointment at say 10 am and by the time you get in to see the guy it is like 1:30pm. and you dare not leave the waiting area lest they call your name! When come to find out the guy didn't and doesn't ever get there before 10;30 am to get started, why i do not know. this guy is an md he has not hospital rounds nor does he have another office anywhere. He even has an associate doctor who is partnered there in the same building.
But that doctor won't pick up his patients even if he is 3 hours late for my appointment time. And the capper is when i peek at the appt. book they have booked 10 people to see him at 10am. That is so outrageous I finally told him he was too busy for me to waste any more of my time with him. He had no respect for me at all. My time is just as valuable as his. I pay him a fee. He doesn;t own me. I own a few minutes of his time and expert advice and medicine because I PAY him. Just like a mechanic at the garage. So he should have had his staff to be gracious to his customers, which is what we are. I think it is time someone told them that don't you? Don't put up with less than respect from tthe people who you are hiring to fix your daughter. And a hansome amount it is for them isn't it.

I see what you're saying, and you are right. I'll usually take back roads I don't know, to go around a holdup, and still end up late because I got lost.

What I usually do, is plan on getting a meal nearby before the appointment. That way, if we get held up by traffic, we can eat the snacks I always bring with, and just miss the restaurant time, not the appointment time.

You have to be there on time. You can afford to go there a few minutes or an hour early and wait but the doctor cannot have his whole schedule upset, because of you - right?

Doctors "run late" too so they do understand. It's time to get a new doctor.

I wouldn't have let them leave me sitting there that long. I would have talked to someone as soon as I arrived. Actually, I'd have used my cel to call them as soon as I realized that we were running late.

Honestly, it is your responsibility to be on time. It's not fair to the other patients or the doctor if you are late.

You can get there early, just try.

sometime you can't help being late. they should not have made you sit there for 25 mins before they told you that.
