First of all you GROW UP. What you did was totally inappropriate and self centered. Your mother has every right to be upset with you. You need to get a job and pay her back the $10,000 she spent on the chair. You also need to humbly apologize to her for acting that immaturely.

I think your mom has the reason to get mad.
she had saved money to buy this chair for $10,000. she obviously liked it a lot. she didn't let you sit, it's not because she doesn't love you or she loves the chair more...! it's because she's afraid you gonna break the chair cos of your weight. and it's proven.. u did break it, didn't you?
she is upset not only because her fav chair broke but it's partly because you wouldn't listen to her.
just assume if you were her, you had been saving your own pocket money to buy something you really like and been wanting for so long. u finally bought it! but your mom just spoiled it! how would u feel...?
don't worry she might be just in tantrums. after a while she be okay. u should talk to her and apologize. after all, it's your fault, isn't it?
your mom absolutely loves you more than the chair... :-) don't listen to others.

What you did was very inapporiate. However I believe your mother is over reacting. She spent a lot of money in that chair, you should pay her back for it. Calm down and put yourself in her shoes. How would you react to your over weight daughter (not trying to be rude here, I wiegh about 315, so I know okay) breaking an antique chair that you just spent $10,000 on? Tell her your sorry and that you will pay her back. Point out to her your view of the situtation and have a nice, calm discusion about the way things went down hill.
Good Luck!

I think your Mother should have insured the chair. Any purchase of that value should be immediately insured. I also think she should be blamed for having a rotten chair in the house which could have caused someone to be seriously hurt. Who buys a $10,000 termite infested, hollow or weak useless chair? If I spent $50 on a chair that weak I would be quite annoyed at myself!! How dare her be angry with you? I think she owes you an apology for being so mean to you as well.

Your mother was wrong beyond words to degrade you and point out about your weight, It was heartless and completely unasked for. It is not as if you wanted to be this way .. so instead of being so cold hearted and thoughtless she should of been more considerate as a mother and simply asked that you please not try the chair as it has cost a great amount of money and it is delicate .. that's all she even had to say! instead of her putting material possession before family .. that's sick of her ..
On the other hand your actions have placed you where you are now and why? if you had taken a breather and thought it over on both sides .. hers and yours you would not have come to this terrible mistake .. your mother is not entirely angry at you actually .. in fact someone with her materialistic personality is currently more worried about gossip carrying througout the entire neighhbourhood and beyond .. do you know these family friends? if you do speak to them .. no i'm serious because much as i hate to say it you ARE responsible for this .. and the best thing to do is speak to your mother's friends and tell them how sorry you are and to please not further humiliate your mother and you .. this will earn you their respect and your mother's .. but above all else? your self respect .. to help you with your guilt :)
best of luck and please remember to forgive and forget in the future...

While it was wrong of your mother to degrade you, and make you feel bad. You should have listened to her. The way she told you not to sit in the chair was mean, but the fact is, she still told you not to sit in it.
Think of it this way.. my sons' have a picnic table. The table says "Maximum weight of 50lbs" .. well, I know that if I sit on their table then it may break, because I am too heavy.
It was the same thing with your mother's chair. It couldn't hold a lot of weight. Would you have sat in it if there was a tag on the back that said " Maximum weight 200lbs" ... I doubt it.
Tell your mother that you are hurt because of the way she told you not to sit in it. Tell her that she was degrading and she hurt your feelings. But also tell her that you were wrong to sit in it after she told you not too. Because you were wrong to do so.

IF SHE WASN'T YOUR MOTHER AND SOMEONE TOLD YOU NOT TO SIT ON THE CHAIR BECAUSE IT COST 10,000 DOLLARS WOULD YOU STILL SIT ON IT??? I HOPE NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CHAIR!!!
YOUR MOTHER WAS TOO STUPID TO BUY THE CHAIR ANYWAY..SHE KNOWS YOU WILL SIT ON IT !!! ANY FURNITURE IN THE HOUSE YOUR KIDS WILL SIT ON IT!! THAT IS WHY I HAVE CRAPPY CHAIRS UNTIL MY BOYS MOVE OUT!
COMMOM SENSE DICTATES IF YOU ARE FAT YOU DON"T SIT ON A FRAGILE OLD CHAIR! I CRINGE WHEN I SEE FAT PEOPLE SIT ON A VERY SLIM TINY CHAIR!! IT WILL BREAK !! DON"T BE STUPID...YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR WEIGHT OR YOU WILL END UP IN THE HOSPITAL WITH FAT BROKEN HIPS..etc etc...
GO GET A JOB AND PAY YOUR MOTHER 10,000 dollars..maybe she was saving that chair for your inheritance so you can sell it!! surprise your inheritance broken furniture!!! NOW YOU CAN SIT ON IT!! LOSE SOME WEIGHT THEN YOU CAN PROVE TO HER YOU CAN SIT ANYWHERE!
JUST BECASUE SHE IS YOUR MOTHER IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN JUST BREAK HER THINGS! HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF YOU BOUGHT THE CHAIR AND SHE BROKE IT JUST TO PROVE SHE CAN SIT ON IT!!

Friend, as in your other post about the cookies, you must realize that self control is important. I don't know why you are overweight and it doesn't matter. However, you should really understand that many things are designed for overweight people. People make fun of overweight people as well and if you are happy being your weight fine. You just got to realize that it will impact the things that you can and cannot do.

i'm not sure how old you are but i think you really should have listened to your mother.....
perhaps the way she explained why she did not want you sitting in the chair was hurtful but you disobeying her was also wrong...
she will get over it i imagine - but i think you should have respected your mother enough to listen to her - just like she should have respected you enough to have explained to you a little more delicately...
all you did hun was prove to your mom she was right...

well you did break her chair.......weight problem or not you broke it and you disobeyed her wishes........now on your defense she should have said it more sensitively in a way that wouldnt offend you but in her defense you are 300lbs and im sorry but you have to face reality and realise those things can happen........you just wasted her a lot of money.....so appologise lose weight and tell her she should have been more sensitive
