if you cut all the fat off a piece of steak and cook it normally, would it be concidered a lean protein?

Absolutely! Get a leaner cut such as a filet. A more fatty cut would be a ribeye, so I would avoid those. You can also tell just by looking at it, if it is lean or not, just by the marbling (the white fat throughout the steak, it is more visible before being cooked) on it. Also, sirloins are common and not as fatty, but they are a tougher steak.

If you cut off the fat around it, that helps, but there is fat marbled throughout a steak that you wouldn't be able to cut out, so I would still opt for a filet or sirloin if you want a more lean steak. Also, watch the portion size that you give yourself. A portion of steak should be 4 oz. before cooking it!

It has be sirloin and trimmed of all fat to be considered "lean" meat. A portion of beef is 5 oz, which isn't much. For the nutritional info, go to:

Lean top round or top sirlion with outside fat trimmed compares to chicken breast.
