Guess what?
I don't think ANYONE ever actually READS the bible! People zero in on a few familiar phrases or clauses, but all that leads up to the famous bits and all that follows those parts are left alone.
The bible is not the book you want people to read if you are trying to get them to be more peace-loving and tolerant. It is full of capricious cruelty, narrowmindedness, and violence at every savage level humans could possibly act out on one another.
If you're looking for peace and love consult the Dalai Lama or maybe teachings by Confucious or Buddha.

"...christians in my bible study class and the only things they're worried about is stoping homosexuals from getting married, stoping lesbians from getting sperm..."
This statement is loaded.... it's the ONLY thing they're worried about?
"...We can't just focus on 1 or 2 things in the bible,we have to get out their and focus on them all..."
Then you follow it with THIS? YOU've just focused on 1 or 2 things about the Christians in your class, and then you count THAT against THEM? That's some pretty serious and blatant hypocrisy there.
However, a good reason why we don't FOCUS on EVERYTHING in the Bible is because of the sheer volume of the material!
All of us have been called to different areas of ministry. Some have been called to youth ministry, some to adults. Some to married couples, others to singles. Some to alcoholics, homosexuals, whoremongers, drug addicts, rape victims, prostitutes, prisoners, and even pastors and other church going saints. We're all the same in the eyes of God and we all need to hear the gospel equally.
However, you can't spread yourself too thin. How many topics can you be an expert in? We certainly can't dismiss anything in the Bible, and we also must consider everything in the Bible when we share any of it. It is one story from cover to cover.
But you can't be the best Sunday school teacher if you're spending an equal amount of your time in strip clubs. It's ok to be a specialist. That's why there's so many of us. The eye can't hear and the ear can't see. And neither of them can do what your rectum does. All of them are vital.
That's why.

i do not study different Christians yet I study my Bible each day. extremely I have a devotional on Yahoo communities so i'm practise the Bible so I even might want to understand what i'm practise so i favor to study what i'm writing about. For my own devotional time i'm examining with the aid of the former testomony immediately and verify out to study a minimum of one financial disaster an afternoon if no extra. very last twelve months I study with the aid of the hot testomony. My significant Bible is the King James version and my study Bibles are The Amplified Bible and the Jewish Bible. those 3 Bibles jointly help to appreciate what God has written and what He needs us to understand. a tremendous variety of the Bible as a lot as Acts become written specifically for the Jewish human beings. Then at the same time as the Church become began Gentiles were also given the gospel and so immediately we are contained in the Church age. So my answer on your question is certain, I as a born back believer in Jesus Christ who's my Savior, Lord and King, I study my Bible and answer question with Biblical solutions. bb

Well, I can't speak for all Christians, but I read my bible. Although not as often as I should. I think the reason your bible study class pals are so worried about the homosexual thing is because it is currently being shoved down our throats. All over the country they are trying to get homosexual marriage legalized. That's wrong and we need to do what we can do to stop it. I don't know how to answer the last question. You do have a point. Do what YOU can do and pray.

A lot of people don't think Catholics read the bible, whic is true to some, because not all Catholics do, however, I do,not front to back, but read and memorize the best verses, and read books ata time. I do bible study, so I know more than I used to, I think all christians should know the bible, yet I think too uch quoting annoys and pushes away the athiests and agnostics of the world. a lot of christians have actually memorized the bible, but that only makes the debate more fun for me, because they know it all, I don't know EVERYTHING, but I know whats important, and which verses the often miss or don't thinkthrough, so, muahaha, Catholics are on a bible come back!!! nah, we usually nice about it though, I just hate making others think they have to be a Catholic to get to Heaven!
God bless,

What a wonderful question.......You are so courageous to even ask this question, and if one gets offended they might want to take a look at where they are spiritually. I am always intrigued by questions about my christianity......you are right God has given all of us the wonderful "free will!" What we do with it is entirely up to us. I have found that attracting people to the Bible is truly about attraction (spiritually, not physically), and you don't have to stuff it down their throats......When you share what the truth has done to change your life and people actually see you living your life differently that will usually attract them more than anything that you could ever say. Like an old saying goes.....what comes from the heart, touches the heart............God wants people to serve him out of love and respect never out of dread and fear............

I read the Bible. I love the Lord. You are right you cannot shove things down peoples throats. If they will listen fine if not fine. The Lord never pushed himself on anyone. If you are not received into the house shake the dust from your shoes when you leave. That is what is stated in the Bible. It did not say continue in the face. Jesus already knew there would be those that would never accept Him.

It's sad that so many ppl find ways to twist God's Word for their agendas, but that's a human thing, not a Christian thing. Christians DO read the Bible, the more they read, the better their understanding of what God expects from us. Which is NOT to condemn anyone, but to bring the Good News to all.

No people do not read the bible. It is very suprising. Why dont you focus on trying to get everybody to follow the laws set down in books such as Deuteronomy like when to stone your children to death (Deuteronomy 21 verse 18-21) Also in Deuteronomy is how to keep slaves. (Pretty sick huh?) Oh yea there is also proper instruction on how to marry a woman after you raped her in that book as well. My point is you cannot force this stuff on people. If you are truly with the God thats portrayed in the bible would you be willing to follow those laws yourself? Are you a true follower of the faith?

I agree we're not all perfect and I'd never claim to be.
I hope they do read the bible, it's the word of God they claim to worship, but I think it's all in the understanding of what they are reading, what were Jesus Christ's most two commandments? I think Christians should strive to be more Christ-like and how did he treat sinner's? Telling the truth is important to people when you witness but anger, prejudice, and hatred doesn't speak for Jesus Christ
