They have sophisticated radar tracking systems, AWACS, other flight tracking devices, why couldnt they see that 2 aircraft were heading back to NYC. Maybe the military was asleep on that day.

Sorry you are all wrong....

You are all wrong....

The AF tracks military aircraft. It was up to the civilian air traffic controllers and radar to track that.

Most likely they did see it but here is no way they would be able to generate aircraft that fast to stop them . The closest fighter base we have to all that is Langley AFB, VA. Even they couldnt gen up that fast.

Dont blame the military. It took the whole nation by suprise and there was nothing we could do but watch and react which we did....

Maybe they did see it...the problem isnt why didnt they see it the problem is why wasnt anything done...the systems were not in place to do anything about it...even thought the government had been told this could take place...how were they supposed to do anything about it...now I thought the same thing as you until a recent visit to D.C. and stayed at a hotel that over looks the airport where the plane that took out part of the pentagon took off from....it didnt matter if they were able to shoot it down...it still would have hit the pentagon....besides....tell me...if they would have shot down the two planes heading back....where would the planes landed...im not preaching....just think it through...it is something the country was not ready for....and even if we were....who decides that the lives on the planes are less valuable than the lives that get killed on the ground...................

Good Question !

I asked myself this same question, a few weeks back. I then went and did some research on the matter. It would appear the fighter jets that guard our skies were under executive orders to "Stand down" .

We have as evidence, a testimony by Norman Mineta (Transportation Secretary) who, heard Vice President Cheney being told by someone, that an aircraft was fast approaching the Pentagon. The young man told Cheney the plane was 50 miles out, then 30 miles , then 10 miles. The young man then asked Cheney "Do the orders still stand ?" Cheney replied, "Of course the orders still stand, have you heard anything to the contrary?"

Mineta’s Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) testimony was edited out of the 9/11 Commission video archive.
When questioned about this, representatives at the National Archive stated that the video may have been lost because of a ‘snafu’. Here is that missing testimony video:

Also, would you take a look at about 8 -10 minutes of this interview with Professor Steven Jones ? It's a 45 minute video and well worth looking at, to its end. At the very least, pass it on to those you care about.

It's not the US Military's fault.

It's the fault of former US President Clinton's administration to act upon the intelligence provided by the CIA and the US Military Intelligence Services.

He was so busy playing house with Monica that he didn't even give a S*** that Osama Bin Laden was about to F*** the USA in its A**.

If Clinton ordered a pre-emptive covert action against Bin Laden, then 9/11 would never have happened. That's why this F***-Up was carried over into the current Bush administration.

Sad but true.

Peace.

Totally unexpected, that's why. How do you react to something you don't understand yet. Its not like it had happened before. Think about it. Even when you can see it going on and maybe have 20 minutes to react, I think it would still be a very difficult decision to shoot down planes full of innocent people (over a highly populated city) without understanding why or what is actually going on. For all they knew, the hijackers were changing directions to land somewhere and make demands like has happend so many times in the past. There was no clue as to what they were about to do.

I do enjoy a good debate. However if homework was done on this you would have known that the FAA is responsible for tracking aircraft over the US. If the US Military was in charge people would have been yelling that Big Brother is watching. So make up your mind on who you wish to blame. I do praise those who in a time of such tragedy responded to help when others ran. I do praise those of our military who responded as quickly as possible to help. To our on call pilots who got airborne as quickly as possible, and yes folks they would have had to make the choice, should it came to it, to shoot down a plane full of innocent people who were hostage to their fate. Can anyone answer the question, could you have possibly handled that decision for the rest of your life. For most of you, I'll answer that question. Your answer is NO, why because you are too busy pointing fingers and blaming others. To those who have and will go into harms way for our freedoms. I thank you. Because our country is the greatest for freedoms, let's keep the debates going this is fun.

Read just the first chapter of the 9/11 commission report. It gives you minute by minute details of what each government agency involved was doing. Mostly they were too concentrated on the first plane and didn't really have a handle on what else was going on.

It's pathetic how people like you try to place the blame of 9/11 on everyone but the actual terrorist who did it. If you're convinced you could do something to prevent another terrorist attack in the
United States, something the Military missed, then you should join and show them how it's done.

because it was a fake attack!! some people said it was the government's job...??? those planes were not really a plane...but, a missile?? i've watched a presentation about this 9/11 tragedy, it said tt lots of plastic bombs---C4---placed inside the twins. that's why the building destroyed in small pieces, not like when it has been zapped by airplanes... in fact i don't remember seeing any airplane trashes around the crime scene, SUSPICIOUS...
