I've already read the four gospels. I started with those first because my friends told me that it would interest me more to read the bible if i start with them. Now that i finished, should i continue reading in the new testament or start with genesis? i don't feel much excited about reading genesis or exodus

Read the first 5 books, the book of laws. Then you can read what you like, but these books are your foundation. If you are really up for a challenge read Revelations

The first time I read the Bible (really read it), I read John then Romans because Romans is excellent to show that salvation is a free gift, that Christ died for a purpose...I like to read Corinthians for some reason, 1st and 2nd for some rason, over and over...but for some good stories Judges is your book...There's some very interesting accounts of normal people doing some unordinary things and actually some of the accounts are quite descriptive...Proverbs are good for a nugget here and there. A verse to ponder for a while and find different applications...Revelations is a good book but sometimes a little deep but Chapter 19 (close to the end) talks about what the city in heaven looks like and that's pretty neat to read and picture in your head...It's all good, you just have to dive in somewhere! If after a paragraph, you're not interested, try a different book...something will grab your attention, I'm sure...

I'd say continue with the new testament. Romans is a beautiful book. So is Hebrews. James has wonderful instruction. The book of Acts reads like an adventure novel, as the new church develops and the apostles go out into the word spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Philippians is a book of comfort and wise counsel. 1st Corinthians is full of promises, admonitions and of course that beautiful chapter on love, 13. Ephesians tells about how to put on the armor of God...how to stand against the enemy.

Wherever you go in His word...you will find treasure. I am excited for you!

keep reading the new testament, then maybe the psalms. don't be so negative on Genesis and Exodus... there's some good stuff in those books! You meet Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, and Joseph in Genesis. You learn about Moses and how stubborn folk can be in Exodus...

Genesis, because if you can believe that the first 11 Chapters are History, and not Allegory, then you are already one up on the rest of those seeking to destroy your Christian walk. Jesus quoted much of Genesis in His response to the Jews' questions. Since He is the Author, He knows It is True. Many writers for the Bible Cannon, but only ONE AUTHOR.

Try Proverbs all of it, they are just rules of thumb for how God wants you to live your life. Some of them will make you laugh because of the truthfulness behind them. Can I also suggest, when reading the Bible there is a Bible called The Message Bible, this was translated into modern day English and has been approved by many many churches. It was written by a pastor named Eugene Peterson, always keep the one you have but this is a great source of reference for those hard to understand versus.

Seriously, I would start with Genesis, or alternate between the books of the OT and of the NT. One informs the other, and it's important to understand both together. There used to be a schedule in the Scofield Bibles for reading the entire Bible in a year, alternating morning and evening between OT and NT. I recommend it or something like it if you are seriously interested in the meaning and history of your faith.

If you've read the 4 gospels and your interested in learning more, continue in acts, it outlines the beginning of the church then continue into Romans.
It's important you talk to someone who is a mature christian who can help explain some of the concepts that are being layed out in these portions, it can be confusing for someone new.

after i read the 4 gospels, i went on to Acts, which is my favorite book in the Bible. Its filled with Paul's adventures as a Christian, then went on to read his letters to the church (Corinthians, etc.) You should read whatever you're led to read. If its Genesis and Exodus, go right ahead. There's no 'wrong' or 'right' to what book you have to read in the Bible, as long as your heart is right =)

Start at the beginning of the New Testament. (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) Those are the most important to christianity today. We still read the old testament, but only Jews normally start there.
