You have to do cardio (running is the best) to burn off that layer off fat on your stomach. It seems like the hardest part of the body to lose weight in (I mean I've seen tons of skinny people with big bellies). Believe me, if you are looking for a flatter stomach, you are not going to get it just by doing ab exercises. Try 30 minutes of cardio a day. If you are not used to exercising it might be tough but it's how you burn fat. No pain, no gain.
To get a toned stomach, do crunches- forget situps. After two days of starting crunches, I was able to notice a big difference in my abs. Now I did not have a six pack, but the muscle was very firm. If you don't do the exercises correctly though then you are just wasting your energy.

Breathing exercises...breathe deeper...suck your stomach in and hold it periodically through the day, eat right (personally, I would skip the diet stuff...I don't believe in it)...add more organic fruits and nuts for snacks, make sure to get your water in. Lots of times we eat when we are really dehydrated and most times we eat things that aren't the best for us. Good luck.

Eat a good healthy diet being sure you take in less calories than you burn. You also need to do exercises such as sit-ups, crunches, leg lifts, and butterfly kicks. Don't over do it work yourself into doing more and longer exercise sessions each day.
