True Christians have never "bowed down and worshipped" any human. It's anti-Christian. You have the wrong religion.
And if you are subtley refering to the respect Catholics give the Pope, which I suspect you are, you are dead wrong. He is revered for the chair he sits in, not his personality (unlike super-tv preachers). Protestants have no problem calling their pastors "reverend". What do you think that word origninated from???
Not every culture is modelled after white anglo-saxon Americans so some peoples in other cultures express their respect differently, but any "pope-worship" is nothing but the wild imaginations of paranoid fundies, and in Catholic teaching, only God is worshipped.
Hebrews 13:17 says, "Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you."
WHAT IS THE EXPIRATION DATE OF THIS VERSE???

II've found just the opposite to be true by the way; the more I am other people's servant, the more I am treated with respect. Jesus is my example. The bible says that He, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but He humbled Himself, took on the form of a man, and became obedient even unto death.
I am never better treated than when I behave humbly.

I agree. God doesn't want us to be anyone's doormat! We have to be submissive to His will and not man's. I try to show respect to authority figures and would never intentionally hurt anyone, but in the end I have to be true to myself and remember that I'll be judged by the Ultimate Authority.

No you don't have to be a wimp, BUT the Bible says that we are to submit to our leaders and authority whether we like it or not... that includes national leaders...
Jesus gave the authority over His body to the Romans...
But if authority tells you to reject Christ or do evil, or die....
crap on authority... I will die for my beliefs, "Give me liberty or give me death!"

free will, to choose the right.
the second half is important.
you are right though...but just remember, christianity means putting yourself humbly below everybody.
"if you are not willing to wake up every morning and die to yourself, maybe you need to ask yourself if you are really following christ." ---donald miller from "blue like jazz"

You are correct not to follow man... but remember about the free will...God makes the rules in this universe... you are free to not follow them if you choose... but you have to accept the consequences of your actions.... choose wisely how to exercise your free will.
