Some repressed memories are true, others aren't. It all depends on how the memories resurfaced, what they're of, etc.
Try going to a counselor, he or she can help you realize the difference.

My mother had dreams for years of a monster crawling into her bed before she asked her sisters about it. Turns out that their dad would sexually assault the oldest sister. When she finally started talking back at 13, he went after my mom and her next younger sister in bed (they shared) when they were asleep. The real monster was my grandfather... Yes, they are real. But make sure that, if you see a therapist, s/he doesn't try digging TOO hard. It has happened that they dig so deep that they start to make you think things may have happened that never did.
A lot of times, these repressed memories resurface when you return to the place that they occured after a long absence, or if you find yourself in a situation near identical to that in the memories. My mom first remembered this stuff about her dad when my father worked late for a week. He snuck into bed after getting home at 2 am one night and my mom came unglued.

I know what you r going through. I am 46 and I kept telling my psychiatrist that i had thought i had been molested when i was 3. He said that sometimes the experience is so traumatic that you repress the memories for years..you just block them out. My psychiatrist told me to go home and ask my mom about it because i even remembered who did it to me. I went home asked my mom and her reply was how can you remember that you were only three, when i asked her why she didn't tell me she said that it was because i never would remember because i was so young and they thought they had caught the guy who did it before much happened. When i told her the name of the person who did this to me she turned white. She still insisted that i was to young to remember and felt really bad for not telling me but yes you can repress the memory i did for 37 years. Sorry for what may have happened to you i know it sucks.

Some repressed memories are real. You need a counselor who knows how to hypnotize you and not put suggestions in your head. I had a friend who was molested repeatedly and would actually go into a fugue so she wouldn't remember it. It was 20 years later that she remembered it and, when she reported it, discovered she was not the only one molested by this person.

"Repressed thoughts" is a heavily over-used term out between the lay public. It hardly occurs interior the case of heavily irritating activities consisting of rape. All irritating thoughts might desire to be dealt with, and the healthiest between us shove undesirable thoughts right into a compartment of our psyche the place they don't interfere with a which ability, efficient existence. that many times takes not hardship-free artwork, and on occasion counseling could make it a a lot much less puzzling technique. Harsh thoughts have a habit of doping up at inconvenient instances, generally whilst pronounced thoughts are delivered on with the aid of an analogous occurring or situation to that which replaced into in stress whilst the unique trauma got here approximately. however the healthful guy or woman acknowledges this for what that's and deals with it and strikes on. At sixteen that's phenomenally puzzling by using fact the trauma is present day and coping mechanisms are nonetheless being developed. not all of them will artwork, yet some will. Time, somebody as quickly as pronounced, is the superb drugs. The discomfort does ease as time passes. It eases a lot extra directly whilst the guy actively seeks reasonable distraction, consisting of earning at as quickly as "A"s at school, engaged on the college play, engaging in band or refrain and community provider. provide 'em a try!

It depends. If these "repressed memories" surface while on drugs, then they are not real!

they are definitely real... repression is a defense mechanism used by your consciousness where the threatening material gets shoved into your unconscious... it is possible to access your unconscious, especially through dreams. i would go to a counselor or therapist, specifically one who practices psychoanalysis; they would be most willing and able to help you analyze your dreams and bring them into your conscious awareness.
