An important one that has been overlooked:
Por favor, ayudarme?
[informal]
Puede usted ayudarme?
[polite and respecting]
= Can you help me. [i prefer using informal when i'm in trouble, especially during fires and floods. I think in these situations the informal is tolerated, except when you have an 'emergency' like you have locked you key in you car]
Desculpe, me gato ha subido un árbol, pero ahorita, se pega porque es un gatito..
= Excuse me, my cat has climbed a tree, and it is stuck because it is a kitten]. Thankfully, the word 'pussy' does not translate, but it does affect this phrase somewhat, where the word pussy could be used to indicate the cat is a coward...
Here could be a critical one also:
Podemos hablar in ingles??
= How about we speak in english.
Answ 1 = Si, ok, no/ningún problema... how can i help you?
= Yes, ok, no problem.. how can i..etc
Answ 2 = No. No sé nada de su lengua fea y cruda.
= No. Sorry, i wish i could speak english, it's so beautiful and crisp a language, but sadly i only speak i variety of spanish dialects, some regional languages, plus several other international languages, i feel so inadiquate without knowing some english. If i could help you, i would truely try... but i cant. Sorry.
Finally.
Ay!... pendejo... no sabes nada
note- Mexican only.
= Ouch!, i'm sorry dear, your delicate loving touch is a little painful for me.

Some of the answers given were really so wrong, like someone with extremely limited knowledge of Spanish. Others were very right. Too lengthy to go into it but I thought I'd let you know.

It depends on what do you need to say, I think the most common to use, maybe those:
Hello - Hola
Good bye - Adios
Please - Por favor
Thanks - Gracias
Sorry - Lo siento
Excuse me - Disculpe
How can I get to...? - ¿Cómo puedo llegar a...?
Can you give me...? - ¿Puedes darme...?
How much does it cost? - ¿Cuanto cuesta esto?
I want ... (two beers, for example) - Quiero... (dos cervezas)
Where is the toilet? - ¿Dónde estan los aseos?
I don't know what else to say, If you need some concrete phrases, please, tell us...
