Becca,
In my opinion, many people are unsure of their own beliefs, and many have the attitude that all beliefs are valid. They have the "I'm okay, you're okay" attitude. Also, many people believe that hell is a figment of man's imagination, or that a "loving" God wouldn't send anyone there anyway.
Mormons and JW's are taught that they are supposed to be trying to get new converts to their religion. Most other religions don't teach that. Even religions that teach that the great commision (in Matthew 28) is supposed to be followed by all believers evangelize with "lifestyle evangelism" which is trying to be a good example to others in the hopes that people will flock around them and ask they why they are soooo gooood!
Also, it is not politically correct to try and convert anyone to your religion. That flies in the face of the "tolerance" that is preached everywhere these days.
Those who do evangelize (using words) either by going door to door, in the marketplace, or wherever, have to have a strong belief in what they are doing. If their motive is to save people from hell, then they are actually preaching from a "loving their brothers as theirselves" biblical standpoint.
Unfortunately, even those who do believe that someone will go to hell if they don't have a savior don't bother to tell others. I think the main reasons that they don't are that:
#1 they are selfish... they have their fire insurance, they don't really care to take the time to be sure you do,
#2. they have a Calvinistic bent "if he was meant to get saved then God will save him"
#3 they are people pleasers that don't want anyone to get upset with them.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

I am a Jehovah's Witness and I would be very happy to spend as much time as you will allow me to--to share my beliefs with you and teach you about the truth of the Bible. For example, hell is the common grave of mankind and not a place of eternal torment. I still would like to keep you from going there if I could possibly be instrumental--How about it?

Im an atheist, and i therefore don't think you're on your way to hell. I think you're missing out on a lot in life (if you're a religious believer), but i don't really care enough to want to convert you.
If you're like most of the population, you'll live for about 85 years in a semi-ignorant stupor. Somewhere along the way you'll end up submitting to your subconcious drive to make and provide for little versions of yourself, before which you'll spend your life preparing for reproduction, and after which you'll spend your time doing nothing useful while taxing society's resources and abusing your right to vote.
So you can see why i don't really care if you believe the way i do or not. I consider most of humanity to be a lost cause, where that's concerned.

You have to make your own choice to trust in God. You can't ask people to convince you that they are right in their own beliefs. You should never look at any religion as unclean, because what ever decision you make on what ever religion your looking for could be your first step to be closer to God, because that's the main reason that man made religion to be closer to God. I consider my self a self tought Christian, I grew up Catholic, but now some times I go to a Baptise church, and a Catholic church. Ask God to help you understand the Gospel. Read the Bible, and pray to him. What ever your looking for I hope you find it with God. May God Bless.

Really, everyone who respects and obeys Jesus Christ goes from door to door to teach his neighbors about the Bible's good news. It is interesting that only Jehovah's Witnesses are so clearly identified with the preaching work; globally more than 6 million preach publicly each month.
(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.
(Acts 5:42) Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.
(Acts 20:20) I did not hold back ...from teaching you publicly and from house to house
It's sad when someone who claims to respect the bible actually insults peaceful preachers. Sad but completely expected.
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching... You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.
Really, if someone goes out of their way to disregard Christian preachers and preaching, what is he saying about himself?
(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos... “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

It is a privilege to be mortal ( only for a short time) . God gave us the chance to experience both good and evil! Know your balance! Enjoy life to the fullest and ignore ignorant Christians !
That is the purpose of life. It is a school to all souls of God! God does not interfere , unless we ask him to! The most greatest thing God gave us is FREE WILL! Choose your life however it makes you happy!

Because they're not self-righteous bigots who insist that you must believe their false religion, as opposed to some other false religion?

I am not so arrogant to tell that you will go to hell, framed by my beliefs.
Who is to say that my faith is the one, true religion? There are many roads to God.
