When moving to another country you should always plan on learning the native language. If you take a class you will learn quickly because you will be immersed in the language every day.

Many middle and all upper class Mexican citizens will speak English. However, it will be American English.

Good Luck,

No you can not assimilate and understand the culture or people without learning spanish. Why in the world would you want to move from beautiful Ireland to Mexico, unless you just plan on crossing the border illegally to get into the united states? Your better of just learning english which by your typing you already do.

Because I am a Spanish speaking woman living in USA, I can tell you at the beginning it was so hard for me. In Mexico there are not too many people speaking English. I will recommend you go to school and learn at least basic Spanish, but please consider that Mexican people are very friendly and I am sure that you will feel comfortable with them.

No most do not know English and they would not tolerate your lack of the Spanish language, it is sort of like going to Quebec and not being able to speak French. They are not like the USA they will not let you dictate to them that they should speak Irish because you can not speak Spanish.

I'm not Mexican, but I'm Hispanic. I suggest that you should try to learn the basics before moving. In Mexico as in most Latin countries regular people don't speak English even though Mexican are used to receive visitors from so many places I am sure they will welcome you and they will try to help you from day one. I have many Mexican friends and they are so friendly you will feel at home in no time. Good luck!!

If you immerse yourself in the language and culture, then it won't take long for you to learn how to speek Spanish. It might be a little bit difficult in the beginning, but you will get the hang of it.
