My daughter is 2 years old, and she screams bloody murder every time I do her hair. (With or without snarls) I am looking for tips to try to make it easier on her and I. I currently use a 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner (but have tried numerous products), spray in conditioner from Johnsons, and have tried soft bristel brushes, hard bristel brushes, and the new Ouchless brush by Scunci. Her hair is about 2 inches past her shoulders and it is really fine and by the end of the day it is soo snarled that I give her a bath just to make the brushing eaiser. She also has a really bad colic in her hair that if I cut it any shorter than shoulder length, it will stick up in 2 spots and look pretty funny. Has anyone gone through this, do you have any tips? I am welcome to tips on styling, products, and any other advice that you might have!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Both my girls have long hair and I have created "hug & brush"
I hug their heads to me, putting my hand firmly at the crown of the head. I then start brushing hair starting low and moving my way up, detangling as I go. Having my hand on the head prevents the hair from pulling on the scalp, avoiding pain. *Bonus* it's great hug time!!!

Don't use a 2 in 1.. people think this makes it easier.. but think about it.. the purpose of shampoo is to wash everthing out of your hair.. so if you put the conditioner in with the shampoo, you are washing the conditioner out too. Don't use a brush if her hair is wet, use a comb, a wide tooth comb.. it will pull less. Her hair shouldn't stick up when its cut short unless you are putting layers in it. I cut girls hair every day with cowlics.. bad ones.. and you can do a chin lenght bob, as long as it is all chin length, its the layers that make it stick up. Go get Paul Mitchells detangler for kids.. it really works good. You can spray it in dry hair too to make it easier to comb. Fine hair is easier the shorter it is. Take her to a salon and find a patient stylist to cut a little at a time.. they should be able to tell when to stop cutting so the cowlics don't stand up.

After a quick light shampoo (leave it in) apply a decent hair conditioner, leave it on for a minute and comb the hair, with a wide tooth comb, while the conditioner is in...then rinse it all off OR get her to float in the bath and gently swish the suds away.

Pop a towel on her head and squeeze/pat it dryer (dont rub it as that will cause more knots). If her hair is still knotty, hold the hair tightly towards the ends, so that any tugging doesnt yank her scalp at all. For huge stubborn knots, tease as many easier hairs out and snip hairballs that wont budge.

EVERYONE who has a child has gone through this. It's not just you and your daughter. Most kids hate having their hair combed and will scream no matter what, and it's something normal that you just have to put up with. Don't fuss around with her hair unnecessarily.

My daughter got her hair cut to chin length, with some layers (it tangles less when the hair's not all the same length) and we use a 2-in-1, Loreal kids spray, and a wide tooth comb. NEVER use a brush.

Allow her to do something fun like read a book or watch TV while you brush her hair. Most of the time it works for me. Also let her brush your hair to show her it can be fun to have someone do your hair.

why make her suffer so you can think she looks cuter? give her a nice short pixie cut or something like that. you can go to a good hair stylist and they should be able cut it so it doesnt stick up any where.
