Khublai Khan in China and to Japan 1274
In 1274, from southern Korea, he launched an assault - a Mongol, Chinese and Korean force, with 600 to 900 ships, 23,000 troops, catapults, combustible missiles, bows and arrows. Bad weather compelled the invasion force to return from Japan's southern-most major island: Kyushu. In the summer of 1281, Khubilai Khan tried again, this time sending some 4000 ships. For fifty-three days the Japanese held the invaders to a narrow beachhead on Kyushu. Then a hurricane struck. The Mongols withdrew again, only half of his force making it back to China. The Japanese interpreted the hurricane as a god wind - kami-kaze. Khubilai was finding the limits that Hulegu had found in the Middle East. It was the last attempt to invade Japan until 1945, at Okinawa, when kamikaze would also be a word of significance.

i believe that the more interesting battle is the one between good and evil. everyone cheers for good...especially since we all love an underdog. in this battle its all fiction so no real peole actually die. there is also no confusion as to who is right and who is wrong. in all of this people find love and gain hope. its the wonderful battle of survival. always on the edge of our seats when we think the hero might no make it.
i think a real battle or war can be regretted, sad, hopless, oppression at its best, loses on both sides that will be morned by someones mother or wive or child. but i dont believe it can ever be thought of as interesting.
