If you put Protestants and Catholics in the same room and told them that the only topics they could discuss were the ones they agreed upon, they could talk all day and all night.
The problem is, with our human nature, we all seem to like to dwell on the things we DISAGREE on.
I imagined Catholics and Protestants would all agree there is only one Heaven.

It doesn't sound retarded at all, because most Protestant and Catholic Christians can't agree on this. There may be many different opinions between denominations or even among members of the same congregation. Some people will always say that their way is the ONLY way to heaven, while others believe the criteria are at least a little looser. I have never been Catholic though, so I don't know the Pope's official stance on this issue. But whatever it is, I am sure there are some Catholics who disagree.

Hi Tennis, good question by the way! As a former missionary I think I am qualified to answer this.
Here's the deal... Back when Christ was first on this earth there was only one Church, and that was the Christian church. At that time the term Christian only refered to one group of people. Then over time, people started having different interpretations over the words of Christ. When this happened, the term Christian changed it's meaning. Once there were many churches that believed in Christ but interpreted His doctrines differently the name "Christian" became more of a general term. It no longer means one specific Church to most people but rather it includes all the different sects that believe in Christ, but have different interpretations of His teachings. So Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Mormons, and so on all believe in the New Testament and believe Christ is their only Savior. But, each has a different way of understanding His teachings. So it would be more correct to ask do Catholics and Methodists, or Catholics and Baptists or whatever believe the same thing, because ALL of them are already Christians.
*In other words it's the belief in Christ as your Savior that makes you a Christian, on the other hand it's how you interpret what Christ taught that determines what group or Church you belong to.*
Does that make more sense?
Do Christians and Catholics go to the same heaven? That depends what you believe. Whatever group you ask is going to have a different answer. I personally believe no matter what group you go to, the only way you will go and dwell where God our Heavenly Father is and Jesus His Son, is to pray everyday and ask what you should believe, and what Church you should join, and then more importantly follow the guidance when it comes!
Hope this helps and God Bless you too!

Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics. Catholicism is a branch of Christianity like Lutheranism or Episcopalian. I would imagine that they all go to the same Heaven, but I'm an atheist and therefore an outsider. Some Christians believe that those of different branches than themselves still go to Hell, but I don't understand why since all Christians believe in God the Father and Jesus Christ as the Son of God. However the different branches of Christianity do interpret th Bible in different ways, which is why there are separate branches.

I often wonder why, well, I really know why, people include all kinds of denominaations as Christian,, but separate Catholics. It is because the Protestants were protesting, and they make accusations, sometimes, that Catholics aren't really Christian. And Catholics like to also separate themselves from Protestants, so some will say Catholic, and not Christian. lol not realizing that that sounds like they are not Christian.
Catholics are Christians, and all the Christian denominations have the same Apostles' Creed, and Nicene Creed, which says:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, who created heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, died and was buried. He descended into hell, the third day he arose again. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father. From thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic (even protestants say this, but with slightly different definition) church, the communion of saints, the resurrection of the dead, and life everlasting .
yes, it's the same heaven, tho we might have differnt ideas about what it is like. When people talk to me who say they are Christian but they hate people of different races and religions,, I tell them "there is only one heaven, and a lot of these people will be there. If you don't want to be there with them, there is another alternative." and I let them think about that.

They both believe in Heaven and Hell. They differ mostly in existence of TRINITY. Sabbath practices on Saturday or Sunday masses. Catholics call the assembly of congregations as Mass, Most Christians call it services. Catholics have confessions and communion most Christians do not. Christians have 39 Books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New including the Revelation.
Catholics claimed they have found two additions in The Old Testament and 27 in the New. Most Christians prefer to preach and pray ot one God. Most Catholics prefer the intercessions of many different saints for different request. No, you don't sound retard but I wish a day will come for you to outgrow some illusions and be more realistic about your faith.

The Catholic Church is the Christian Church.
In Fact for the first 1500 years after Jesus it was the only Christian Church...then came the Protestant Reformation.
And for Pete's sake people...Catholics, Yes Roman Catholics DO NOT WORSHIP Mary. Only God.
P.S. Special K:
Not the same question..........
And RALLIE: Where did you get this info brother?
Christians have 39 Books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New including the Revelation.
Catholics claimed they have found two additions in The Old Testament and 27 in the New.
Catholics NEVER claimed they "found" "two" additions. There are seven (7) additional Old Testament Books in the Catholic Canon. They were also in the original 1611 Protestant King James Bible, but later it was the Protestants that "REMOVED" them. Catholics have added nothing.

mostly, but not entirely.
Catholics are 1 group of Christians. They believe the same things (generally) about the Bible and about Jesus. But there are a LOT of different Christian groups ( denominations). Most Christians would say that all Christan's go to the same heaven, and that includes Catholics. but there are people on the edges, who have some unique beliefs.
Non-Catholics don't generally believe in the (Catholic) Law of Apostolic Succession. Non-Catholics aren't taught Catechism.
Politically ? i wouldn't place any bets that Christians all believe or vote the same way.

The Catholic Church developed from early Christianity. It took centuries for the Catholic (meaning "universal") church to develop. From about the mid third century the Catholic Church became the dominant Christan church in the world, with a few exceptions, in remnant churches that were considered heretical by the Catholics. The Catholic Church developed into the major religious and political organization in the western world. In 1517, Martin Luther, a Catholic priest, protested some of the teachings and acts of the Catholic Church. This protest ultimately led to a split in the Catholic Church, that was the beginning of Protestant Churches. Most Christian Churches stem from the Catholic tradition.
This is a very abridged version of what happened, I hope it helps to answer some of your questions. Read books about religion, and books outside of religion, then make up your own mind. All of this is not as simple as many people make it to be.
Good Luck

Yes, the heaven is the same. Other beliefs are not. Catholics however are Christians BTW. To distinguish try using the terms Protestants and Catholics. Catholics believe in praying to Mary and Confessing to a Priest and Pergatory. Protestants do not believe in any of these things.
The Common Belief between them is the Belief in Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

True Catholics and Protestant Christians believe the same thing about salvation, that there is only one heaven and that Jesus is the only way there.
Most of their other beliefs though are quite different.
Many of the Catholic beliefs stem from man made traditions.
Most of the Protestant beliefs come directly from the Bible, although some Protestant denominations have a lot of man made traditions and rituals and other stuff they add to scripture.
