You're right Adam and the woman may have been depicted to be of Middle Eastern features. Making that race of people the start point and all other races followed after that.
For their depictions of being white, that's the by-product of years and years (thousands) of a story lost in translation.

First---the Adam and Eve story is a metaphor, a myth---there were more humans on the planet at the time---where did Cain's wife come from in the land of Nod? There were humans there when he got there---did Adam and Eve go there beforehand and propagate a whole country? Common sense here Sweety.
The races of the world originated from the inception of the original seed---goes way back beyond Adam and Eve.
Read "The Urantia Book" for detailed information. You'll be amazed. This is not the only source---study, seek and find.....
Take care

Who assumed they were white-not me!
~~~~~~~`
All the people on this planet Earth are descendants from the first couple -
Adam and Eve. We are ALL just shades of that same colour !
Hold a sheet of Real White and Real Black paper up against your skin.
I can tell you "for certain" that your skin colour matches neither of these
paper colour samples. We are all "off white - or - BROWN !
WE ARE ALL OF THE SAME COLOUR because we are all indeed
descendants of that couple. Because of protective pigmentation we
are of different shades indeed.
What a beautiful example of how OUR MAKER designed us and built
a protective system into our skins to protect us from the suns rays !
Few people realize that The Bible does not say anything in opposition to
what is referred to as "mixed marriages". This is precisely why.
If "mixed marriages" do not work in our society, as it is today, it is because
of the arrogance of man. To "prove" superiority they often use gross
misinterpretations of Bible passages or misapply a Bible passage to
make it look like it proves them correct.
Adam, Eve, Moses, Christ Jesus, Peter and Paul were all white unless you live in Africa, in which case they were black, except for those living in Latin America in which case all were brown.
Seriously, only males rule the church because males wrote the rules. All important bible entities were of the color of the nation speaking. Have you ever seen the black Madonna? I have, but then I've been out of America. Your point is well made. I hope you don't mind me trying to use humor to support you.
There existed a long time span between Adam and Moses. Somewhere between Adam and Moses skin darkened on some of our first parents' descendants.
I have to say, I have never given this one much thought at all as to what skin color they may have been.
knowing the earth was a terrarium like atmosphere, there would have been no harmful UV rays to "suntan" their skin, so they could very well have been quite pale, bordering on albino.
There would have been no need for their skin to have developed darker pigments according to geographic areas. So they very well could have been "whiter" than any of us here on the earth today.
the first thing i thought when i read this question was who said they were white i don't think i ever thought about color. but then, all pictures do portray them as white. i think maybe when someone is told the story the picture they have in their mind would be two people of their same race. so adam and eve are without color the pictures books have it wrong
We all tend to make gods in our own image. The easy answer is racism. In reality, bhudda looks strangely eastern. prehistoric idols look like their creators. It is a comfort and familiarity type of thing.
Adam was neither white nor black.
He is likely to have been Semitic (partway between whites and blacks, in appearance). Same with Moses.
Cordially,
