Man created God in an attempt to consolidate all the mystery of life into one being they could worship.

God was once used to explain the sun, the moon, and the seasons; now that we understand them, he is used to explain the few questions we still have, such as the origin of the universe and the afterlife.

That is a very wise question. In the views of humanity, there always seems to be a God, one way or the other. Through different religions there are different views on how God is seen, on how he/she is in reality. But if you look upon life in general, like how all humans have noses, or we all have hair, you notice it really isn't that different from religion. Humanity is like one huge brotherhood, looking to the same thing in different ways. So human speculation created films and picture shows. Why not create God? Why not have some single sub-conscious thought that runs in all of us, whether we are Christian, Atheist or anything else? Since the dawn of the human imagination, we have always speculated on some "God" form. As people, we think, and as the mind continues to think, things become more realistic, in our own way, as we share our thoughts. Thought grow into beliefs and from there it branches a whole new creation thing, where God actually becomes a creation of the Human mind. I hope you understand. Few people do understand this, no matter how I put it. God can be whatever we belive him/her to be. It appears to some that God is a creation of man.

Man created god. People don't like for there to be anything unknown, they like to think they know everything. The greeks and romans thought there was a sun god, war god, weather god, ect.
We all know better now and in some time we will have proved that there is no god. People just don't want to have anything that is out of their control, so they created something that they think will solve the problemb.
