They do not kill them when they get them. They usually hold them for a certain number of days to see if they can find the owner. I believe they can keep them and try to adopt them out for 30 days if they have the room to keep them. They are 'put to sleep' when their time/or space runs out.

Has the stray dog done anything other than walk around hoping for a handout? Are you afraid of dogs? It is rare for a dog to attack children. You may want to ask the police if there are any laws against firing your gun within the town limits. Also, it would be dangerous to injure a dog with children nearby. Are you sure this is a stray dog and not one that lives nearby? What happens if you injure or kill the dog and then the owner takes you to court? Is there anyone else who will testify that the dog was acting aggressively toward the children?

Back in the old days, the pound would shoot the dogs when their 3 days were up (we used to board horses on some land where the kennels were kept...we fed our horses every day, so we would go out and clean the kennels and feed and water the dogs...the ones that actually made it the 3 days were usually shot and thrown over the fence...my grandfather bought the food himself and was never reimbursed for the effort). Now, the animals are kept in more humane conditions and if the dogs are not claimed, and are not suitable for adoption, the animal control are required to take them to a vet and have them humanely euthanized.

No kill dog pounds dont .
But others do if no one adopts them after a while . Thats why its better to adopt a animal then go buy a 400.00-1,000.00 dog . plus those cute puppies have a better chance to be adopted if they are pure bread then the older ones at the pound .
save a life adopt .

In my country, Thailand, where most of the people are Buddhists, they catch the dogs and release them at stray dog centers where the dogs are given food and shelter. They do NOT kill the dogs.

Well it depends on the dogcatchers but normally they take them to a pound. If its owner shows up eventully they take their dog back. If owner doesnt show up they put it up for sale and if no one chooses the dog after a while they put it to sleep which means they give it a shot so it will dies.

not immediately... they go into the pound for a certain amount of time giving the owner a chance to locate them, then they are usually put up for sale in hope of finding an owner who can accommodate them. if after a certain period they can't sell or give the animal to a good home, the animal is then put down.

Some do and some don't. There are "no-kill" shelters and there are regular pounds. It really depends where you go.
