First, you need to try to control your own weight before using weights. Try to do push ups, dips, crunches, running, etc. Then start using light weights doing three sets of 8-12 reps for each muscle group, keep adding more weight for a few months. When you feel you have gained some strength use more weight but try to exercise only 1 or 2 muscle groups doing more sets. Remember it does not matter how much weight you can lift, the important thing is to correctly do your sets, you will be able to lift more little by little.

Try starting with half your wieght.....if you can lift that easily and for a long time up the wieght.....by the way Im talking about bench pressing and Im able to lift 5 pounds over my wieght and I started three months ago. So good luck and happy lifting

Work out all major body groups every other day until you get to know the lifts and are ready for more advanced training. The major groups are, chest, back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, and legs. Work them one day, and rest the next.

I'd say by putting down the beer, remote, and chips....get off your butt and go to the gym. and then you start by finding a heavy bar and pick it up
