I am replacing my car speakers in my 2002 VW Jetta that I just bought.. I have a new CD player I am about to install, a 1000 watt amp, and two 12s..
I am wanting to know which speakers should I use.. Either 3 or 4 way speaker.. My factory speakers are busted and I just want to know if the 3 or 4 way speakers has anything to do with the amp?? So, if there is a certain kind I need to get with my amp...
I know I am a girl but I am not a retard.. I buy speakers for sound ((hence what they are used for.. NOT LOOKS)). I try to keep it all the same brand. I heard it has a little bit better of sound quality. So, thanks to anyone who can answer this!!

If you have 61/2" opening in the front i would buy a pair of either infinity ref. components or the infinity perfect components and power those with a good 300 watt rms two channel amp. For the rear, a set of coaxial speakers connected to the hu will do just fine. Don't choose your speaker on whether they are 3 or 4 way because the only difference between those is the number of tweeters they stick on the top of them. With that set up you will have a very powerful sound stage up front where you want it and it will sound very clear and lound.
As for an amp, if you want a good quality amp you could go for the 300watt 2channel JL amp. KICKER, ZAPCO,or Elemental Design amps are very good but this is only a few.
Give a budget amount if thats an issue and people can suggest based on that.

A lot of head units have RCA "pre-outs" that look like your home stereo plugs. These are what you plug the amp into to limit distortion, because the signal is sent to the amp, unboosted. From there you wire in the subs from the amp.

The 3 or 4-way speakers can wire directly to the head unit. or if your 3/4-way speakers require more power, you can bridge, or wire together, two of the four stereo wires, and then connect them to the speakers. Generally 3/4-way speakers do not require that much power, so I believe running them through your amp is unneeded.

Thats just my experience, but i will yield to the gentleman below. lol I agree the best audio quality will come from running everything through the amp.

Hey there,
I would go with 4 ways and get a 4 channel amp for them and they will sound alot better, than just running them off the radio...

I've used just about all of the best speakers out there and the ones i like are Cerwin Vega's,Kenwood, pioneer,JL and Rockford fosgate as well as Boston ac..

thats just to name a few... Just make sure u get a amp that at least 100 watts bigger than the the total RMS of the 4 ways..

well it all depends on your preference but 3 way or 4 way speakers are good and it all depends how many watts they are sometimes running them off your stereo deck its just not enough power because 2 12's inch subs can give off alot of base but you may want to run your mid-range speakers off your amp as well and your tweeters two get a couple of cross overs for your tweeters and your 3 way or 4 way speakers i have used MTX brand of subs and if you can get the speakers too its worth it but sony or kenwood or pioneer are 3 of the best going out there for sound quality

the factory speakers you are about to replace has nothing to do with the amp. so what you do is go down to walmart at their little sound setup, find the size you need and listen to the various ones they have hooked up. and make your decision based on the sound quality that you hear there.

as far as going brand to brand it has no effect on the sound quality so there isnt anything for you to worry about there.
