Hi I have two boys one 4 and the other 2.. When potty training my son I found it was easier to have him sit on the toilet, I did it with him facing front he rathered it like that, your goal at the beginning is to have him learn to pee in the potty and know when to go.. So every time he went potty he would sit and I would remind him to hold his equipment, we call it a snake don't know why, down towards the toilet.. Once he had that learned we then worked on the standing which was easy because he knew to hold his snake and aim in the toilet..
Good Luck and remember patience, patience, patience if he gives you too many problems then stop for a while he may just not be ready at first!!

My son is 3 and trained. I started him off sitting down. Soon after he started standing on his own bc he saw his Dad.
The best advice I have after training 3 kids is don't rush them. Don't offer rewards other than praise. It won't take long for them to not care about the stickers, etc and they will stop training.
Get a "big boy potty chair" and let him sit on it whenever and however he wants. Then show him how you go in the toilet and ask if he wants to try. After that talk about how neat it is to use the toilet and not wear pull ups. Talk about the cool big boy underwear he can get after he has been using the toilet for a while. (Maybe 2 weeks consistently). Make it seem fun, but don't scold, threaten or push. Potty training is no big deal and if you approach it like that you should have no worries.

I am doin the same thing right now. My boy is almost three years old and I was having a bit of difficulty. Fortunately for me I was able to end my contract early so I could concentrate my time on this. You know daycares these days all want them potty trained. So its all about consistancy, well I believe. No more diapers unless its bedtime. So anyways I just let him run around the house butt naked. Well Im a single mother so my son is learning sitting down. I brought him to the store to pick out his potty... but he doesnt even use it. I use the top of it and just set it on the reg toilet seat. I heard though that if you are teaching him to stand up right off the bat it... froot loops or cheerios make targeting fun.

I only have two girls but I have potty trained my nephew. I started by having him sit on the toilet and then his dad showed him to use the bathroom standing up once he had enough practice. And always stay consistent with him when you have him sit on the potty. Have him sit on the potty at least once every hour and when he uses the bathroom praise him. I would not recommend buying him anything because then it can get expensive. Just tell him good job, you are such a big boy, etc.

Well, if your son can reach it over the rim I would try standing but if not then sit down. I would try putting a cherio in the toilet...make it fun ...have him try to aim for the middle. Or if his daddy is there then daddy might be able to help...my sone always got excited to go potty with daddy. Make it a big deal and praise him when he goes potty...

Purchase 'Potty Training with Bear' (Bear in the Big Blue House) from Toys R Us or Babies R Us. As I agree that to throw targets in the toilet such as Cheerios and Frootloops are very helpfull. Also Rewarding then and praising them after going potty on the toilet.

See what your son wants. My oldest learned sitting down. My youngest stands- I think standing makes less mess- when they sit they have to learn to "hold it down" However my youngest hasn't pooed in the potty yet so I am wondering how hard that will be since he doesn't sit to pee?????
Good luck I am kinda potty training right now too...joy....

boys take longer to potty train than girls do, ive heard. i would teach him sitting down first, so it will be less mess for you.
then as he gets older, let him go to the bathroom with another male in the house until he gets standing up.

Ok put cheerios or fruit loops in the towlet and have your little boy kinda play a game of peeing in the potty. It will make it make him more comfortable. My aunt used this trick with both her boys and had great sucess with it. Good luck!!
