Rueben- to make 1:
- Butter both sides of 2 pieces of rye bread
- Layer on corned beef, swiss cheese, a little sauerkraut and a dash o thousand island dressing
- Fry lightly on both sides until 'golden brown and delicious'

Some people add the dressing after frying- others omit dressing and/or kraut

A common variation, often called a 'Rachelle', involves turkey and cole slaw.

One variant of the history of this sandwich has it being invented in Omaha's Blackstone Hotel, along with Butter Brickle ice cream.

Corned Beef and saurkraut, I think there is usually cheese.. .maybe swiss. . . .On Rye bread, with thousand island dressing. A lot of deli's/bars serve them. Sometimes they are grilled a little bit. . .Pretty good actually.

Corned beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing on grilled rye bread.
I like it better on grilled white without the cheese or dressing.

DARK RYE BREAD
RUSSIAN OR THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING
SLICED CORNED BEEF
SAURKRAUT
SWISS CHEESE.
So what you do is spread dressing on bread like any other spread, lay meat down first, then saurkraut and cheese, cover with other slice of bread, and proceed as if you are making a griddle cheese sandwich, serve with gherkins and chips, enjoy.
