Melaleuca Oil works! Be careful of Nix and all of those storebought ones, I have a horror story of a little girl who died from too much seeping into her scalp. Let me know if i can help.

Skip the mayo, that is too time consuming and it never worked for me. What you should do is buy regular vegetable oil, warm it, saturate the hair with it and cover it with a plastic bag trying to squeeze out any air bubbles. Leave that on for 30 mins to 1 hour, then wash out twice with Dawn dishsoap, after that apply lots of conditioner to the hair and while it is still on take your nit comb through it completely 2 or 3 times, then rinse. I guarantee you that is the BEST (since the oil smothers the lice)and easiest remedy, but you must get out all nits and of course treat the bedding and furniture. Good luck, its a crappy battle we all have to face eventually with children.

I know you can go to the store and get the kit and use that then ago like a week later also you need to clean all of you sheets, clothes, stuff animals etc because what your head touched the lice got to and there is a spray with it to spray stuff.

MAYO left on all night covered with a shower cap. We tried all kids of different shampoos even herbal lice shampoos on my daughter NONE keep em gone. A friend told me she swears by mayo i used it as a last resort IT WORKED. DO NOT USE ANYTHING LIKE GAS OR KEROSENE or scalding water. RESEARCH anything someone suggest. you can search mayo to rid head lice on yahoo it will give you pages of info.

absolutely everything that the person with lice came in contact with must be washed or sprayed. this may sound weird, but you can go to a pet shop and ask for Zema dip for dogs. you can put it on people and spray your furniture. i used this myself when my daughters first grade class had a lice breakout

Yeah they have a shampoo at the pharmacy I want to think its called Rid, and you wash the hair with that, and let it soak, and it use to come with a very small comb that you use to get all of it out. If you call the doctor or ask the pharmacy lady they will tell you the for sure name, but I think its Rid. and I'm sure they have other brands.

There are alot of home remedies, and store bought products and it all just seems so confusing and by the time you treat, comb, and clean your whole house, and everything that you or your child has touched you have spent a hundred bucks or so. So my advice to you is simply this ask your pediatrician for advice and he or she can set you straight.

tea tree oil is also a good remedy for getting rid of lice - but - it smells horrid... very strong and i wouldnt reccommend it for smaller children. works wonderfully if you can stand the smell

like the others, may and oil is good. try also a shampoo found in the pet section of your local store called Mane shampoo. It's for horses but it's not dangerous and it does the job. My daughter struggled with this problem for years.
And for teens and adults, dye the hair. The ammonia and stuff will kill it.
