I have a 86 flat top piston Ford 5.0. Im going carburated and putting on these set of 87 heads. I want to put my RV cam in it too. What is a good way to check the clearance between the valves and pistons? I want to make sure its all going to fit.

setting the heads on for a test with old gaskets that are intact.
Put modeling clay, or grease in the cylinder. Then CAREFULLY!!!!! turn the motor over by hand with the spark plugs out.

Assemble everything with your stock cam. I use clay or playdoh if the kids aren't watching.Turn it over and measure your clearance. Then figure out how close you are. Cut away a section with a knife. If you think you have enough room then try your big cam. This way you dont accidentally bend a valve.

If your looking for horsepower, cam yes, carb no.go with sequencial fuel injection ,add headers, check duration and lift on the cam to make sure it is compatible.
