While the most common Margaritas contain Tequila, Triple Sec, Lime Juice, and an additional sweetener such as Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water), many variations are becoming more and more common. Often, Triple Sec is replaced with other types of orange-flavored liqueur, such as Patrón Citrónge, or the Blue Curaçao, yielding the Blue Margarita. The GRAND or ROYAL Margarita often contains Grand Marnier. Oftentimes, when sweeter fruit juices or freshly muddled fruits are added to the Margarita, the amount of Triple Sec is often reduced or it is eliminated entirely.

a classic margarita is:
1 1/4 oz blanco tequila (Herradura is my favorite)
1/2 oz triple sec
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
a drop or two of lemon juice
1 tsp sugar syrup

Tommy's Margarita (which is the ultimate margarita for tequila lovers) is:
1tsp agave syrup
1 tsp sugar strup
1 tsp still mineral water
1 3/4 oz tequila (any kind will do... I prefer Patron Silver)
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
Stir the first 3 ingredients in a cocktail shaker until completely combined, add the rest of the ingredients, fill with ice and shake well!

The basic recipe includes: 1 1/2 oz tequila, 1 1/2 oz sweet & sour mix ( or 3/4 oz fresh lime juice mixed with 3/4 oz simple syrup) and 1/2 oz orange-flavored liqueur.

The most commonly used orange-flavored liqueur is triple sec. Cointreau, Grand Marnier and Blue Curacao follow closely behind. Patron's Citronge is specifically designed for making Margaritas.

Your choice of tequilla will make a big difference on the taste. Patron silver is awesome. Of course the last choice to make is........to salt, or not to salt.

We love it with 1 jigger good tequila, 1/2 jigger triple sec & 3 jiggers of Margarita mix on the rocks. Add a wedge of lime. You can salt the rim of the glass by wetting it & dipping it in a plate of salt if you like. Ole'!

Tequila, triple sec, Lime (or the fruit of your choice)Either blended with ice to make it frozen or just stirred or shaken (what ever they do). Lime is the best frozen in a nice salt rimmed glass, served with chips and spicy salsa or guacamole is even better.
