people are generally too excited with the prospect of owning a new pet (addition to the family). I would suspect that many spoil their pets when they first get them which ultimately leads to misbehaving animals. another reason could be that some people are just bad pet owners... they buy on impulse and get stuck with something they don't really want or have time for.

Lol! I agree with Bekah's answer.
Most people don't "get" that a new puppy isn't a toy; it's a living creature that needs to be taught how to behave! It's terribly sad that so many people don't have the foresight to read a book or two on the subject BEFORE getting a dog. It's even sadder that so many people don't take into consideration the breed of dog they are getting, or the amount of time they are going to be able to spend with it beforehand.
I also think that alot of people don't want to mess the dog up by trying to train it when they don't know how, and they are too lazy to pick up a book to learn how. If people would automatically start training a puppy from the first day they brought it home, they'd have a whole lot less bad habits to train out of the pup later, huh? :(

Because as a dog trainer...You should know that the first one your really training is the pet owner and then the dog. But I do see where your coming from. Some pet owners are still on the "WOW a new puppy" kick and seem to forget the little stinker doesn't know not to potty in the house yet. Wouldn't it be a perfect world if everbody did automaticlly train their dogs.

The reason I didn't train my dog when I first got her was because I didn't have the $150 to pay for training. I did try to do some training at home and now she knows some simple commands. If classes were cheaper and I got more good reviews from past clients then I would definitely have enrolled my pupy from the start.

The reason people dont train their dogs are because the dogs look so cute and they just want to spend time talking about how cute they are. Some people may do that because they want their dogs to get used to the environment that they are now living in.

Because people don't understand how much time a dog requires. They expect it to "be good" and understand things like "no" and "bad dog" and a smack on the nose. They treat them like "children" but don't give them discipline and stucture. They don't establish dominance and then when the dog pees all over the house or jumps on people or chews on things, they tell it "bad dog" and expect that tomorrow it will remember how much trouble it got in the day before.
Sad but true.

Some people just don't know how to train a dog and besides why would we need dog trainers if everyone was proficient at training their own dog.

well, they might not have the time, or the dog is just not getting it. We trained our dog, but she is a Border Collie so she was smart, and easy and quick to train.
