Of course there are, have been and will be prophets. Prophets are the means by which God reveals himself to us.
Some, who don't do their home work, will say that there weren't any prophets after Jesus, but the Bible says "there came prophets from Jerusalem to Antioch".
One of the Prophets was Agabus. Mentioned in Acts 11:28, and 21:10, as a prophet of the New Testament. Most probably both passages refer to the same person, who appears to have been a resident of Jerusalem. Tradition makes him one of the seventy-two disciples (Luke 10:1), and one of the martyrs who suffered at Antioch. According to Acts 11:27-30, Agabus predicted the famine which apparently must be identified with that happening in the fourth year of Claudius, A.D. 45. In the year 58 the prophet predicted to St. Paul his coming captivity, though he could not induce the Apostle to stay away from Jerusalem (Acts 21:10-11).
Not everyone is a true prophet. Jesus warned of false prophets. He said that you would know them by their fruit. I suppose it would be good fruit "to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted".
If people aren't broad minded enought to consider that someone else might be right, consider what Jesus said to his disciples In Mark 9 when someone tried to start a new denomination.
38 ¶ And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

Yes there are Prophets today the first Modern Prophet was Joseph Smith Jr. A true prophet of God, someone who answered this said that we would say he's a few bricks shy of a full load and ridicule him. This is true, Our newest Modern Prophet is Gordon b. Hinckley.

The truth is prophecy is a gift. Gifts are received from the Holy Spirit (for free); thus the gift part.
"Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy." 1 Cor 14:1
"Therefore brothers, be eager to prophecy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues." 1 Cor 14:39
Without prophets how would the body of Christ be edified?

OMG yes prophets are still today!! An amazing thing happened to me while attending revival services. My dad had been injured and I was quite worried about him, although no one knew. The visiting evangalist, looked directly at me and told me that God had something to tell me and to stop worrying about my dad for he was in the best Hands and was ok. Then he continued the service. I have many times been prophesied over and the prophesies have come true...

I belive that there are Prophets today. They way you know a true prophets from a false prophet is if a person claims to speak for God, does what he or she say agree with the Bible or does it contradict the Bible.

I'd believe in a specific prophet only if he/she passed the tests that God has provided us (Deuteronomy 18 and Deuteronomy 13) to separate true from false prophets.
Cordially,
John

Only if what they prophesy stands up to the test of Isa 8:20 -- "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them."
If they say anything that does not completely harmonize with the Bible, then I would consider them to be a false prophet.

I would say no.
Deuteronomy 13
"If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, 'Let us go after other gods,' which you have not known, 'and let us serve them,' you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
