No. A dog is a dog and knows it is a dog. Just like we know we are human and a bird knows its a bird etc. Dogs see humans as a different being but not as a dog. They accept us as a member of their pack but they know we are not like them. We communicate differently.

Dogs don't do much thinking at all. They are basically stupid, but they do have memory. Humans actually are animals, although a lot of people are in denial about that. So, the dog has no reason not to regard the human as a creature, as opposed to a tree or a rock. Dogs don't bark at trees, but they do bark at squirrels and at humans.

When a dog is a member of a household (as opposed to the dogs that white trash keep tied up in the yard 24 hours a day, 365 days a year) it probably does regard itself to be one of you. But as I said, it doesn't really think about it.

I have two Staffys and know of a few other people who have them, they do think they are human, by the way they act and do things, yes they do see us all as pack, and need to know the ordering of the pack, BUT they can see themsel;ves as humans depending on how they are treated, I'm not sure about other breeds of dogs though. If you could see my dogs you would understand and I have heaps of people comment on this.
