Why not? I am a christian, I have a tattoo, I have had several piercings... I love God and I try my best not to judge other people. God doesn't care what you look like, he made you and just wants your love.

Why does it matter if there is graffitti on a church? What if it is bible verses on the side wall???

Tattoos are older than Christianity. With all of the beautiful artwork being put on people, it's a shame that some people insist on calling it "graffiti". It can express anything you like, from what you think is simply beautiful, to your beliefs. It may not be acceptable in Leviticus, but that seems to be a set of rules that are picked through to suit what people like. Do your research, make sure it reflects you, GET A GOOD ARTIST, and you will have something that is significant to you until the day you die.

Some say yes its ok.
Others say no.

What I think is that if you are a Christian, you should be in the world, but not of the world.

We see that there are many people with tattoos, I see kids that are high school age -15-17 years old that have them and got their parents permission to get them.

Christians should be a witness to Christ wherever they go and in whatever they do.

Would Jesus get a tattoo? I think not.
Tattoos puff up the pride of the person.
We must imitate Jesus and the Saints in their humility.

Unfortunately, we don't have that many humble/faithful people to serve as role models for our youth. And because of this, these symptoms of spiritual poverty are shown in the tattoos, piercings, scantly clothes that people have now.

Boy, are there lots of sides to this one! Part of any real answer hinges on what you mean by "ok." In Leviticus, God clearly states that His people are not to put tattoo marks on their bodies. However, as Christians, we do live under grace, and are no longer subject to the Law. On the other hand, we also try to please God because we love Him. Choosing to voluntarily follow what God has clearly said He does and does not like us to do -- since we want to please Him because we love Him -- does not land us back under the Law. It's done out of love!

In his letters, Paul repeatedly says that we live under grace. He also speaks of our freedom in Christ, reminding us that though all things are permissible, not all are beneficial.

It also boils down to why you want that tattoo. If it's a sign of rebellion (a.k.a. "being your own person," wanting to be different, etc) remember that God equated rebellion with the sin of witchcraft (when dealing with Saul's disobedience in I or II Samuel.) If your wanting a tattoo is a sign of wanting to follow your friends' examples, remember what Paul says in Romans about not being conformed to the patterns of the world. If you want your tattoo because you think it will make you look better, read what Paul says in I Timothy about adorning ourselves from the inside out. Whatever the case, it may not be the tattoo that would be the real problem, but your motivation behind wanting it.

If you are a Christian who is seeking to be obedient to the Lord, not one who's looking for loopholes to do what you want to do, I sincerely hope you'll go and seriously pray about this. Be sure you allow time to listen, too, when you pray. God wants His people to be those who give Him their loving devotion, not a bunch of people who are trying to see how much He will let them get away with doing.

First of all to the person who wrote the first comment Christianity is not a CULT or RELIGION its a RELATIONSHIP! And yes i am a christian who has tattoos i know that it is NOT okay to get them but i did its a choice you have to make on your own. Its a battle between your faith and what you know is right and your flesh and the ways of this world!!!!!

What do you think? After you decide, can you comfortably defend the choice to have a tattoo to your family, children, and church?
I feel I could with several tattoo choices (tribal bands, a phrase, or tasteful art) Besides, your body is only dirt, right?

Leviticus 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

That right there says to me that it would not be a good thing to do.

Also your body belongs to Ggod and you need to think what would God have me do with my body just a thought

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

I,m a Christian and have many tattoos, in fact one is a celtic cross and another of Jesus. I know the old testement says it's Gods law not to have them , but I don't think he minds

The bible also says not to eat meat with blood in it, like a rare steak. or wear cloths with mixed fibers, like a wool blend suit or sweater, polyester/ cotton

No, I am sorry but they are forbidden by God. The answer you seek is somewhere in Leviticus. I wish I could remember exactly were. However, if you or anyone else already has a tatoo, repentance through prayer is all you need for forgiveness. And, don't do it again. use your existing tatoos to teach others God's word.
