They have to be kept warm. Drop in body temperature causes most problems If you find one again, put it in a box with a warming bottle (empty bottle with a cap, filled with warm water and wrapped in a towel.) Put the box where you can watch it to protect the baby from predators. If Mama doesn't come within the hour, she's not going to. At that point, find the list of local avian rehabilitators to take the baby too. Continue to keep it near the warming bottle. Don't let it get too hot either. Do not attempt to feed it. It's too easy to get food or water into their lungs and aspirate them.

Thanks for doing a kind thing. Sometimes we only learn by doing.

Mary F has the right idea.

Also, for the record, birds will not reject their offspring if they are touched by humans. Most birds have little to no sense of smell, and won't even be able to tell if a human has touched the baby. So you did the right thing by putting it back in the nest.

It could have gotten pushed out by stronger siblings, or simply fallen over the edge. It may have been injured in the first fall, and the second fall made the injury worse, or it simply fell differently the second time.

I'm sorry it didn't work out, but good for you for trying.

They fall outta the nest for alot of reasons...it could have just simply lost its balance..it could have been unhealthy to begin with and was shoved out. It's possible that it died do to trauma from hitting the ground hun.
Alot of aviaries won't take wild bird because of the communicable diseases they carry. I wouldn't bring one into my aviary. Such is nature unfortunately. Good on ya for trying though. Sometime thats all you can do. :)

first time couldve just been an accident, but if you had touched it and put it back up then the mother wouldve tried to get rid of it the second time.

it was "mother nature".. it probably was sick or had a birth defect..so sometimes the parent or sibling sense that and kick the ill one out ...it is sad but it is nature ...animals in the wild deal with mother nature all the time....sorry :(

If you touched it with your hand its mother might have gotten mad and killed it because a human touched it.
