He says it hurts when he bend over. He's not in agony, he's watching TV. But there is a swollen area near his groin that feels tender. If he was hurting bad, I'd certainly call 911

I wrapped an ace bandaid around his middle for support.

The ice helped for last night. He made a doctors appointment for tomorrow, if anyone cares for an update. ...Stubborn old man won't go until he's half on the floor, sheesh.

Might sound a bit stupid eventually, but I would go with RICE...Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate... I mean, the body part where the hernia is, to avoid further popping out.
As for pain killer...maybe Tylenol, Motrin or Advil will ease him to a more comfortable level. But please make sure he sees his doctor soon.

Holy crap, I had to have a double hernia operation. For God sakes take him to a doctor and get him something strong, the poor guy must be in agony. If the doctors office is closed take him to emergency, they must have something they can give him. Wow your old man must be pretty tough, I thought I was going to die. I wouldn't wish that sort of pain on anyone, yikes! Go with the ice if you can't get in, keep the pressure off as much as possible, it hurts when you remove the pressure, you dig? I hope he's okay, good luck eh!

Well, if it really is a hernia (inguinal????), I would suggest cold. BUT, that is only if you know what it is. When I had my hernia, I would use an ice pack after exercising. I also wore spandex type bike shorts to keep "stuff" from popping out!! I never took anything else at the time.

hi there there is no pain killer dear ...maybe midol but the best thing is there is a hernia belt sold in most pharmacies, and it will help the pain and it will help it from poping out even more, also a good investment for after surgery to help prevent it from repopping cause it's very easy for it to accure

Cold reduces swelling while heat is soothing, so I would alternate. If he can take Tylenol, give him two. I would not recommend doing anything else orally without consulting a physician.
