Its really up to your mothers Oncologist which chemotheraputic agents he uses. He doesn't just pull these out of his hat at random. Studies and clinical trials are used to determine which chemotheraputic agents work the best for the kind of cancer tumor the patient has been diagnosed with. These drugs are often used in combination and sometimes for a number of cycles, then test such as CT scans are used to determine the effectiveness of the chemo on the tumor. Not all tumors respond to chemotheraputic agents the same. Sometimes, the doctor will change the chemo agents to something else. What may shrink a tumor in one person may not work at all for another. It takes a medical degree to understand it, and then sometimes its difficult. The chemo used for cancers are 1st used in clinical trials I have been giving chemo for about 11 years now and you can go to the library and order books etc on chemo protocols which are highly medical, but may make you at least feel like you are doing something.
I can tell your from experience, your mother is in for the fight of her life. The best way for you to help her is to be there for her, supporting her and praying for her every day. I know you care very much or you would have not put this question here. I am a cancer RN.
Prayers and peace to you and your mother.

You need to go to the American cancer society, mayo clinic or web MD websites and do a little research. Ask lots of questions. If you aren't satisfied keep searching. I wish you luck and God Bless you and your family
