spanking is necessary ! making a child sit in a corner and giving them a chance to "think about what they just did" makes them think about other wrong things as well as how to get back @ the people who helped them in the corner in the first place. SPANKING GIVES CHILDREN A SENCE OF FEAR causing them to become respectable adults and NOT OLD SPOILED BRATS who can concoct a scheme in less than a minute !

I'm against spanking, and I have a child. Which isn't to say I didn't spank her...I just think that it's a "last resort" situation and not the first thing that you do.

You should never hit a child in anger. If you're going to spank you need to do it before you get angry or after you've calmed down.

I had a friend whose parents didn't believe in spanking..however, they would have the kids kneel on the floor on dried peas as a punishment. So, as an adult, his knees are absolute garbage. Personally, a spanking never did any long lasting damage to me.

There is a difference in spanking your children and beating your children. I believe in spanking but these people believe in neither. Some kids just don't respond to a time out and need a little smack on the behind. Just don't let the wrong person see you or you'll be visiting the pokee and then be visiting your kids in foster care. Then they wonder why some of the kids are the way they are. NO DISCIPLINE!!!!! I was beat with belts, race car tracks, paddles, yardsticks and probably a couple of other things and I turned out just fine and learn how to respect others.

No... there's several parents out there who don't believe in spanking. My son is now 6-weeks-old and I had a ton of advice in regards to disciplining him. The one I heard the most was to give the child a time out.. one minute for each year of age. My response was "God made hands and God made butts! They go together very well, thank you!"

There's a difference between beating a child and spanking a child for discipline. I was spanked and so was my husband. We both thank our parents for it now and neither one of us have a nervous twitch or need to see a psychologist every week!

God yes.
I have 3 children and I don't spank unless I have to but still sometimes it's the only thing that works.
I don't believe in beating your child but a spanking every now and then is fine.
The difference is beating will leave a mark and spanking won't.

My mom is against spanking and she has children including me.
I believe that parents resort to spanking, because they don't know how to control their children.

When one of my sons was three, we lived in New York City, Manhattan to be specific. He thought it was funny to scare his mom and dad by jumping into the street. We talked to him until we were sick of it. Finally, he did it again and I picked him and gave him three hard swats on the fanny. Problem solved.

I think on a safety issue like the one I described, spanking can be needed.

no not all-my son is 12 & I don't believe in spanking (I was physically abused as a child-that definitely plays a big role in why I don't or have never spanked my son)

I am not so sure. I am 15 and I live down here in Texas and everyone here seems to be for it except my dad (thank goodness!) and we aren't from here. Like for instance two of my best friends still get spanked; one of them I know her mom keeps a wooden paddle hanging up in the dining room Yikes! They even do it in schools here so it's happened to me a few times...ouch!
