You don't. It's rude.
It's as if someone asked you about your sex life. It's really none of your business.
Would it make that person a better or worse person in your mind or in your heart?
Would that person being gay or straight mean you would have less or more to do with them?
You really should ask yourself these questions before asking them about something that personal.
That person is a member of your family! You should love your family no matter what!

Frankly, I think it's not a question anybody should be asking...not even a family member.
If the person wanted you to know, they'd tell you. Maybe you might suspect they are, but they actually aren't. Then, if you'd asked, wouldn't they be offended?
I have a cousin whom I think may be gay, but I've actually never asked him. I figure it's not important for me to know.

You don't. You wait for them to tell you. I was asked if I was gay when I thought I was and that set me back years.
I felt offended for some reason even though I thought I was gay. Maybe it was just me being scared.
