Mutt or Pure Breed...which is better?

Depends on what you are looking for in a dog.

If you have definite requirements (i.e. size, energy level, coat length) then you would want a well-bred purebred from a reuputable breeder.

If you are more willing to "take what you get" then a mutt would be just fine.

I've had both, and both have been equally great pets. Right now I have purebreds because I've found a particular breed that suits me perfectly, and because I enjoy going to competitions with them.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with mutts, some turn out to be great dogs, but sometimes when you don't know exactly what the dog is mixed with it can create a problem, if you have questions or concerns with certain things, such as temperament or what size he will be. If you get a pure bred you get a general idea about the temperament of the breed, and what the breeds standard size and weight should be.

Lots of good mutts, I've had them.

If you want to be reasonably sure about getting what characteristics you would like to have in your dog.

Such as, size, behaviour, intelligence, looks, good with children, placid vs high strung.

You can much more predictably assure of that by buying a pure breed. Although as anyone who has ever had a dog will know that there is some ramdom chance involved.

Anyways I loved them all, mutts and pure breds.

There are benefits to both. I believe mutts and hybrid breeds to be a better choice.

Mutts and hybrid breeds tend to be healthier than purebred animals. Dalmatians, for instance, are almost all deaf because they all descend from a common ancestor that happened to have been deaf. A mixed breed dog would likely not suffer such a problem as deafness is a recessive trait.

If you are particularly fond of a kind of dog or want a dog that looks a certain way, selecting a purebred animal from a documented bloodline is your best bet for finding just the right animal.

MUTTS!!!
MUTT stands for: Most Unique Totally Terrific.
Mutts are the most loving dogs out there. I have a 6 year old rotty/shepard/lab mix. He took to my kids and became their protector right away. My kids are 1 and 3. O man, it's the greatest thing to see him with my babies. He gives them big sloppy kisses when they use him as a pillow. He is very patient with them. If he loses patience, he gets up and moves. He is a gentle giant.

I don't think either is better. It just depends on the dog. I used to think the answer was mutt because they seemed to be more loyal but I now own one mutt and one purebred dog and I love both of them.

i have a mutt but i dont call her a mutt i call her a dog and i think that either r better inless u r tryin to win a dog show then pure breed is better. well i think that mutt shuold be able to win to.

I own both. The mutts seem to have more personality. As far as purebreeds it depends on the breed. I have a mini pin who is smart and cute

I would say mutt because they r cute and if the dog has puppies u neva kno what kind u r gonna get cuz of all the differnt types of dog in the mother of the puppies!

either.....as long as it is adopted!! i prefer mutts but have 2 pure breds and 1 mutt..go figure? ALL are rescues !!! and apreciate the "good life" :) go to petfinder.com there are tons of rescue leagues that will help you figure out what would be good for your family and life style....you may "want " one thing but "need" some thing else because of your family and life style....good luck ....don't litter...save a life and adopt lol
