I think the way you are is the way i would want a cool girl to be, like not drooling over me and I bet he can't get you out of his head... He knows you like him cause your friend told him that already so that part is out of the way. Now he has broken up with the other girl and is talking to you and being nice. If he doesn't ask you out it may be he hasn't come across a girl like you and may not know how to ask you so I think you should ask him if he doesn't, other wise he may not and it won't be becasue he doesn't want to but doesn't know how to and if you don't want to loose the change of going out with him do it...

Well, I know it is against everything for your age group to do, but . . . just go up to him and say, "I like you and was wondering if you were doing anything _______ (day that you are next free, Friday night, Saturday, whatever) ?"
I know it seems impossible but if he says no, at least you won't have to hear it through someone else, and if he says yes, you'll feel that much better about yourself.
