drinking is never a bad thing as long as you can afford it. I love to drink with friends.

G'day T agent,
Thank you for your question.
If you have a few social drinks with friends, that is fine. However, binge drinking where you drink large amounts of alcohol to get sloshed is a completely different matter. There are differing interpretations of what binge drinking is.
The British Medical Association states that "there is no consensus on the definition of binge drinking. In the past, 'binge drinking' was often used to refer to an extended period of time, usually two days or more, during which a person repeatedly drank to intoxication, giving up usual activities and obligations."
The International Center for Alcohol Policies says that diverse definitions of binge drinking exist. "Within the field of epidemiology, for example, there is disparity regarding the amount of alcohol that needs to be consumed in order to qualify as a 'binge'. One of the commonly used thresholds for 'binge' drinking is 5 or more drinks for men and 4 or more for women per occasion. This definition has gained a foothold within the social sciences literature and has influenced media reporting of drinking behavior." However, this definition is seen as excessive as that could cover a civilised dinner party.
It explains that "the clinical definition of a binge, as the other hand, is characterized by the consumption of alcohol to intoxication, usually a solitary and self-destructive activity lasting up to several days and involving a loss of control. Epidemiological definitions generally refer to much shorter drinking episodes but do not quantify binge drinking adequately."
If you find that you are getting drunk every weekend or are getting into circumstances that you can't control, then that is binge drinking. In those circumstances, you should seek help.
I have enclosed some sources for further reference.
Regards

As long as you are single, legal age, and don't have kids I would say a weekend of drinking is okay. If you have kids try not to make it a habit.

its not REAL bad but every weekend does turn into habit. you don't want to become an alcoholic. is it possible for you to go out and not drink one weekend? if you can't go out and not drink there could be a problem. i'm not saying ur an alcoholic but you don't want to be dependent upon alcohol...be careful...party hard but party smart!

I don't drink and I would never suggest anyone to. Drinking with friends is worse because you never stick to moderation and you never realise how much you have taken.
Alcohol slows down your reaction time which is why intoxicated people get into serious accidents. Apart from that you are damaging your liver. If you don't look after your own health, who will?

I like to gauge my drinking on this thought= Alcohol changes your DNA structure. So.... "should I be pounding this stuff into my body on regular basis?" I do it, "light" beer and what not. the occasional hard drink like jack, but I leave it up to the professionals to do the hard drinking, you know, those guys are champs cause they hold meetings on how much they drink.

I did it for years, and years, now I don't drink at all, and mornings are much brighter. I prefer the feeling that is derived from "Giggle Smoke", and I can get up the next day with NO PROBLEM, no sickness, no "I'm kind of here but, not really functional" sick feeling the next day !

Just be careful and safe and it wont be a problem but if you let it get out of hand you'll find yourself drinking more and more.
