Calling EMS first is essential. You have that exactly right.
Please don't try to feed them cayenne pepper as someone suggested. But the advice to take a CPR class is very, very good.
Until you do, the steps are to have the person sit down or lie down and stay as calm as possible while you call 9-1-1. Don't let them exercise or walk around.
Unless they are allergic or unconscious, the operator will often tell you to have them chew one regular adult aspirin (with maybe a small sip of water-it's nasty but you want the aspirin to be in their system ASAP) or 4 baby chewable aspirins. An aspirin can actually cut the risk of dying by as much as 50% If they have trouble breathing, keeping their head somewhat elevated may help. If they have medication for angina, like pills or spray, assist them in using this as they have been taught.
If they are conscious, your main job is to keep them as quiet as you can and be reassuring. See if they want anyone called.
If they are unconscious but breathing, just monitor them. If they stop breathing you should start rescue breathing and compressions if you know how. Until you take that course, you can see the description of what to do on the American Heart Association website. Read it now, not during the emergency.
If you are in a public place that has a defibrillator, folllow the instructions on the machine. They will be very clear. Keep yelling for someone who knows CPR to help as well.
Once you know CPR, don't be afraid to use it. Time is short to have the best chance to help. And any help is better than no help at all. Stay on the line with the 9-1-1 operator who will talk you through what to do.

Always remember ABC! A-airway be sure they can air in by this i mean that there is no object in the mouth or throat. Look for food, tounge, etc. B- Breathing are they breathing, if not begin chest compressions to expell and move air through the lungs and body. C-circulation - check for a pulse. remember not just in the wrist but in the neck. if no pule start CPR asap!!! Have any information ready to give to EMS when the arrive. They will need all medications, any history of heart problems and if CPR was started tell them how long ago if possible. You can find out more at american heart association plus get a CPR class. Just Remember ABC!!!

There is really little you can do. What the person really needs is a paramedic to get them to the hospital. Asprin can be given for heart attacks, but the paramedics will give it along with other drugs when they arrive. The best thing to do is call 911 as soon as possible and wait for the ambulance to get there.

You need to take a Community CPR course. This will tell you all you need to know. Because there are a whole series of steps you take when someone has a heart attack. Because unless you are alone, you do not leave the person to call you send someone to make the call and tell them to come back and tell you what was said.

you would need to assess the situation, see if the patient was breathing or not, check patient for pulse, and check patient for conscienceness.
If patient is not breathing, start rescue breathing,
If no pulse start CPR along with rescue breathing.
Your best bet is to go to your local hospital or Red Cross to learn the proper steps for CPR to take and how to do each step properly.
I wish you luck and hope that you never have to do CPR on someone.

If still conscious, put them in a semi-sitting position, ask if they are allergic to ASA (aspirin) if not crush an 325 mg and get them to wet finger and dip in the powdered aspirin, and paste it under the tongue at the very back

If you have Cayenne powder...put a little bit under their tongue to dissolve..it helps to break up potential blood clots
