Well today the UN is the only body in the world that can really bring peace, if it is allowed to do its job properly. If US and other 'self righteous' countries do not put their narrow selfish interests (read oil, business, defence contracts) above that of the world and does not ignore the UN when it wants. For the answerers above, obviously Americans who think they own the world, the UN was invited to be in New York and does not impose itself on the US. Actually, the economy of New York benefits greatly because of the presence of the UN headquarters. Therefore, if the UN is allowed to bring peace, and if its work is not hampered by intereference and meddling from other countries, it can and will do so. See Sierra Leone and many parts of Africa

The UN is too incompetent to do anything. They were supposed to be babysitting Lebanon while somehow the Hezbollah brought thousands of weapons by the Israeli borders in front of their noses. They received bribes from Saddam Hussein, their soldiers raped women in Africa last year and millions of Africans died and were left for slaughter. They let terrorist states have important jobs within the UN as well. Years ago people laughed at the John Birch society (a far right group) when they said we should get out of the USA. Well they were right. Oh and also, the UN is pushing for a one world gvt and want to tax American citizens. Think about that!

No. I can't cite any recent (since 1975) diplomatic or political solutions proposed, initiated, implemented and sustained that lasted for even 5 years by the UN.

When they finally (if ever) decide to intervene with proposals of peace talks, treaties or the pull back or return of lands they seem to make it unilateral and then act surprised when their peace plan, truce or their cooling off period fails.

When they finally are forced to use their peace keepers (aka-military) they have brought little success to the areas of conflict. Their troops in the powder blue helmets (no disrespect to those who wear them) always seem to be out numbered, possess insufficient weapons and lack over whelming firepower. And typically hold combat positions (location) less than desired by military commanders.

The original concept and goals set forth for the UN and the League of Nations before that seem to have have been passed over. Passed by to make room for corruption, greed and personal & political power for many of those who "run" the United Nations.

The UN is worthless......
It should be moved to the HAGUE to free up that real estate in NYC for more useful purposes.
Nothing but a glorified debating club.

No of course not. If you believe that, you are worse than my nine year old brother who believes in Harry Potter.
