I am planning on making shrimp scampi for my husband (he is coming home from Iraq in 2 days) and I was wondering what would be a good (and relatively inexpensive) dry white wine I could use to make the scampi sauce with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!! :)

Chardonnay would be the best for a seafood recipe, when heat the alcohol will cook off leaving the flavor of the wine behind and a bottle should be well under $15.00 and it will still have great taste, and be good for drinking,

Here's a tip you will use for the rest of your life. ALWAYS have a bottle of dry sherry on hand. Dry sherry is a white wine that has been "fortified" (read: infused) with aromatic herbs and spices for a short time and then filtered out. What you have is all the crispness and acidity of a white wine coupled with a boost of flavor for any dish you prepare that calls for white wine, GARLIC, HERBS, SEAFOOD and other strong flavors. Dry sherry is also less expensive than a white wine with some ba**s to it, which you would need to make a sauce flavorful enough to not be lost to the flavor of the shrimp. Whatever sherry is left over can easily be corked and kept in the fridge for a few months. Spend the money you have saved on the best Viognier you can get.

Pinot Noir is good as a Scampi Sauce. about $5-$12.
Pinot Grigio was allways a good one. Has a bit of a hefty flavour, I allways got compliments at restaraunt where I was cook.

Something nice and light would be good to cook with and drink. I would suggest Cavit Pinot Grigio. Inexpensive, yet refreshing!

Any good mid range priced white wine should do well.

Not too dry, not too sweet.

A chardonnay in the $10-$15 range should do nicely.

Tell him big thanks from us all.

any white wine will do, don't worry he won't want to eat, he'll be too happy to see you to eat, and even if he's starvin' it will be the best meal he ever had! but while you're grillin' anyway throw a couple of small rib eyes on as well,,,TURF AND SURF and welcome home safe!!!!
